Federal investigators are saying that they are investigating him for gun smuggling, tax evasion, violating importation laws.

The search warrant also said Adams was investigated in Canada for keeping about 80 illegal guns in a storage unit. U.S. agents worked with Canadian police on that case.
He's been under investigation for a long time.

The way I read it is he was "investigated" in Canada but doesn't say anything came of that. The main thing that grabs my attention is the New Mexico gun laws, the state he lives in, he broke absolutely ZERO laws. There's no mention of any FFL laws being broken, no unlicensed full autos or anything, doesn't say he was trafficking across state or country lines for sure. No charges have been filed, idk how it works on the federal level but my wife is a police officer and they have to provide sufficient evidence that a CRIME has been committed before a search warrant is granted. If the guy was breaking the law in some way then I have no problems with his guns being taken, I just don't see anything in the article that equates a crime. Even if he did have guns in Canada that has nothing to do with having legal guns in New Mexico.

Probable cause is enough for a warrant and is technically not the same as "evidence that a crime has been committed". The warrant is issued to search for the evidence that links to the crime. Probable cause is enough to get the warrant to discover the evidence.

The first line I quoted is what they raided his house for per American laws.
Gotcha, very true. I was on cup number one of my coffee still lol. And you're correct that sufficient probable cause for a warrant to search for further evidence of a crime is being committed. If he is smuggling and breaking the law he should be charged, It'll be interesting to see if they ever charge him with anything and if not whether he gets his guns back or not.

Right. They have some PC got the warrant and now if any of those firearms is linked to smuggling he will be charged. Not like a random average joe and the gov. Sent a swat team and Came and took his ar and 30 rd. mags.

Exactly....big difference between a gun collector and a gun smuggler.
