Pardon the Rant.

I just finished reading the CA article on Kaizad Hansotia and this man came off as one of the most pretentious pieces of work in the industry. While not knowing him personally, I can't confirm that this is who he is but, based on the article and the outlandish, almost ghoulish creations of his in terms of packaging made me want to puke.

There's a part of the article that really did not set well with me including a quote by Kaizad himself: "It doesn't take an economist to realize that not everyone can drive a Rolls Royce or Bugatti Veyron. There are certain levels of wealth l, and Hansotia is completely at peace with that."

It goes on to say (and this is the piece that got me)? "As with any symbol of wealth and prosperity, Gurkha gets its share of criticisms. Some have charges that his clientele are nothing more than vanity smokers with more money than sense (true). Others have dismissed his products as merely hype and pretty packaging for mediocre cigars (true again). Hansotia scoffs at these notions."

""The people who say that are morons," he asserts. "And I'll tell you why. If that were true I wouldn't still be here. It doesn't matter how great your packaging is. If the cigar wasn't any good, I'd be out of business. We've been here more than 20 years and every year we've seen a 20 percent growth. The criticisms come from customers who can't fathom spending over a certain amount for a cigar and resentment towards those who can.""

This sums it up for me. Based on his judgmental and dismissive statements I will never again even pick up one of his piece of crap cigars. Who is he to say what anyone can afford. Like many of you on the board, I've shelled out well over $25 for a stick: for those special sticks that have lived up to the cost.

As for Gurkha, while I'll admit, the Cellar Reserve is a nice stick, based on his feelings toward the 99%ers I say he can kick rocks and take Marvin R. Shaken with him.

Youd feel differently if money grew out your ass! But seriously, a product doesnt have to be aby good to sell and stay in business, thanks to their marketing, they can sell to the vanity smokers who dont know better and support their brand easily. Like a lot of big name brands, they ride off of former successes, marketing, and/or labels to keep their product alive instead of quality and real cigar smokers' loyalty.

lol what a tool and such a douchey corporate response. Gurkhas are absolutely for people that don't know what actual good cigars taste like >_>

yeah he said that if his cigars weren't any good then he wouldn't be in business but the people that smoke them just don't know any better;; Seriously, EVERY single person I talk to that doesn't know anything about cigars when I start talking about them is like "oh yeah Acid and Gurkha are like the best right? I really like them" and I just weep inside, but I don't want to sound pretentious so I'm usually just like "yeah acids are sweetened and infused with extra non-cigar flavors so they're good for newer smokers, and Gurkhas are ok but overpriced" I mean, I'm not gonna lie...I've had a few and thought they were OK, but for a 4-5 dollar stick, not 10+

anyway, fitting for a dude who chose a hitler lookalike as his mascot to be a dickbrain.

I guess Hansotia has never heard of cbid...

@CeeGarOne , do you have a link to the whole article? I think of Gurkha as a budget smoke, so I find the whole "not everyone can afford Gurkha" to be quite hilarious....
Sorry brother, I only have the subscription because it was free (Reward Survey...) and it's not archived on CA's site of course.

I can shoot some pictures of the article and PM them to you if you'd like. LMK

Found it - I get a bunch of free mags from Reward Survey too, and hadn't even opened the new CA issue yet.

But yeah, this should be an interesting read. Thanks for the head's up! (y)

On a side note, not sure if you get any other mags from Reward Survey but I get ESPN and Men's Journal free from them, I think they're still available...

Kaizad Hansotia has found his niche in the industry and has exploited it in such a way as to become the Red Headed Step Child that hardly anybody likes....except those who he pays to keep his brand in the market. If putting out a new cigar every 3 months and having it taste like a variation of horse, pig, monkey and cow $hit then he's an unqualified success. Yes, every now and then he lets out a cigar that got through the process of actually being decent...much to the chagrin of those who really don't like this brand but as they say...even a clock tells the correct time twice a day.

All I care about is that cigars are being talked about....that's what he brings to the table and if there needs to be a crazy clown in the mix...welcome Kaizad Hansotia .

Whoa there... I thought I was the crazy clown here, I have the paperwork to prove it!

Anyhow, Kaizad Hansotia and Ghurka are like the Kardashians, they only stay famous because people talk about them. Let those that enjoy Ghurka smoke them, let the rest of us "morons" enjoy what we truly like. Besides, if all of the Ghurka smokers and Rocky Patel smokers stopped smoking the "good" stuff, they would start smoking what the "morons" smoke this leaving us fighting a larger number of people for the LE/LR smokes. Right now, it's a pain in the keister to get your hands on some of those, can you imagine fighting agains 20% or even 50% more people to get that new @JonHuber stick?

He'a written so many F'd up descriptions of his cigars even he believes them now.
Exactly, just so happens today I was reading the Bourbon Edition of the Cigars and Spirits Magazine and they were interviewing him he's wearing this black hat and sunglasses (going with the Chuck Norris, Texas Ranger look) and tries to come off as everyman. I'm like dude, decide who you want to be and stick to it.

Link to article.

I've only found 3 cigars in the entire Gurkha line that didn't taste like absolute garbage to me. Let him keep hawking those cheapass Pakistani & Chinese knives with a box purchase too lol. I've watched video of him as well..he comes off as a pompous ass.
