Alright... another poll, again featuring the HdM Petit Robusto...

Which do you prefer between the (regular production) HdM Petit Robusto and the (limited edition) H Upmann Mag 48?

Both of these cigars remind me of a Cuban take on the WOAM in terms of flavor profile. A lot of the cocoa notes mixed with things like almonds/walnuts and espresso.

Curious what you prefer and why. In my experience with these... the H Upmann has had a tendency to be plugged, and definitely needs some age. However, I wonder if the Upmann has a better flavor profile, and better profile for aging. They are 0.3" longer, 2rg smaller... and cost more per box.

In addition to which you prefer... if you were going to tuck a box away for 5 to 10 years, which would it be?

Burned through another of the Mag 48 Els today... what is it with these sticks?

First inch was plugged... got past that and it opened up, but the burn was so terrible. Uneven, tunneling, etc. I know Cuba has QC issues and that construction can be hit or miss... but this is not typical of the year...

Anyways... great flavor profile... some mineral notes in this one, bitterness has subsided a bit... still needs some time.

Are others experiencing the construction issues (I'll search for other review... was being lazy before I posted this)... or have I just had a bad run.

I'd really like to age some of these, but the way they've been going I'm tempted to just stick with the HdM Petit Robusto... which has the benefit of being cheaper.

I split a box of the Upmann Mag 48s a while back, and I wasn't at all impressed. I smoked through a few over a good period of time, and to sum it up....

They sucked IMO.

Alas, I have no more left...and I'm not at all heart broken over that.

I've only had one HdM PR, and it was pretty good. Not exactly a stick I think would become amazing over time, but that's just an assumption on my part.

In a similar size to these listed (sorda), if you haven't given the Monte Petit Edmudos a whirl yet, I'd certainly recommend doing so. They're very nice....

I've had a different experience. I've smoked a ton of the Mag 48s and have really enjoyed them. For sure, they are the best of the LEs for 2009 and I think they will age well.

I have tried one of each and was not impressed by either. I'm a huge Upmann fan, but I don't like LE's for the most part (a big exception for me was the RyJ Duke EL 09). I don't tend to buy Hoyos and the PR wasn't bad. In general, I despise the shorter, thicker format of cigar. For my money, there are way better cigars out there. If I had to pick between these two, I'd go with the Hoyo.

not a big fan of either of them. The 2009 EL RyJ Duke surprised me. Haven't really found the love for RyJs however, the Dukes were a delightful surprise.

You could not have said it better there.

And for what its worth Im sitting on my mag 48s cause they have all kinds of issues now.
Interesting... the Mag 48s seemed to show incredible flavor initially, but construction issues abound.

The Dukes... I've only had one in all fairness, but the first half was particularly boring... the second half picked up a bit. Didn't think there was enough strength to age... but I went ahead and grabbed a box and am sitting on it. I'll give it another shot at some point.

Mag 48 was quite possibly the CC that put me over the cliff. It was like a flavor bomb for me.....I remember the night like yesterday, actually the BCS Championship game, Oregon vs Auburn. Still may be my most memorable cigar flavor-wise.

I have had a few since and they have not been an exact repeat, but I still wonder if I should buy another box or 2 just to have.....
