I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the H upmann serie du conn no. 1. I know they are milder than the mag 46's, but are they equally as good in their own way? I am thinking of buying a late '05 box of these. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you mean the Upmann connaiseur No. 1 and not the Partagas serie du conn No. 1.

Yes these are a bit milder than the Mag 46, but they are an excellent cigar. Even though they are mild, I don't find them lacking in flavor at all. A box from late 05 would probably still need a few years to let the flavors come out, but I would highly reccomend these cigars. Upmann cigars tend to be somewhat bland between 6 months and 3 to 5 years. But then, watch out!!!!!

I do mean the conn no. 1, it's been a long day at work lol. Do these cigars come in a slide lid box? I am trying to decide on just stocking mag 46's or trying to branch out to a box of conn no. 1's.

The H. Upmann is just the Connoisseur No.1.

Partagas is Serie du Connaisseur No.1

I personally don't think they're mild at all. Had a '98 and an '01 that was full bodied to say the least. Not one of my personal favorites but many others I know enjoy them. If you like a full bodied, no nonsense kinda cigar with mild complexity, then you'll like it. I personally would choose any other Hermoso #4 over the Upmann such as the SLR Regio, R&J Ex#4, ERDM Choix Supreme and VR Famoso.

Yeah, you know I didn't mean to say they were mild per se, more that they are more mild than the Mag 46. But it comes across that I'm saying they are a mild cigar, thanks for pointing that out Shane! I would put them in the medium area of strength, with alot of flavor after getting through their sick period. I try to seperate strength and flavor.

I remember on how I was surprised on how well they tasted. Toasty tobacco with sweet-like character. medium - bodied strength. I had one from 1998. A good friend gave me one to try. I did get a box after that.

I have 5 or 6 SLB's kicking around. They are very good and reasonably priced. They are one of my daily go to cigars. I think I have another box arriving in an order this week. You wont be dissapointed.
