Well its been a year since I've been in this box. Why not Labor Day?
When I bought this box in 2009 I had a few and they were already very good. Could they use a few years? Absolutely almost all CCs get better with some down time.
Bad thing is this cigar although when very young in 2009 treated me good in 2010 THEY GOT SICK! Very weird IMO to be sick later then younger but heh it was only a year difference.
Start Time: 3:20 Pm
Drink: water
Temp:66 deg partly sunny and 20mph winds.
Finish Time: 5:20 Pm
Taking this cigar out of its beautiful dress box I notice no signs of ammonia in the box. Some slight barnyard but mostly cedar. One thing I notice is that although during a certain time it was fun. I gifted to many out of this box away! :crytears: 8 left after today and I think I've only smoked 5 or so duh!
Construction is flawless, perfect give from the whole length of the cigar. Cap was perfectly applied as well. Very toothy wrapper for a CC. Although I do also notice this on some Montecristo and SLR cigars as well.
Cut the cigar once again with my Palio and I'm greeted with that perfect CC draw. Tight but plenty of air movement thru the cigar itself. Greeted with pepper on the lips and and bready cedar mix. This cigar has definitely got some of the same tobacco as the H. UPmann Mag 46 imo (at least on the prelight)
Btw forget a perfectly rolled foot showing. How about a perfect rolled/cut head of a cigar!
Lets light her up! Upon lighting off the first few puffs I'm getting rich tobacco, very small amounts of spice (along with a just a small tingle on the throat) and a strong wood note. (Oak)
About a inch in now. Starting to develop. RICH Cuban tobacco. Young still with a fair bite. But man I think this thing is already out of the sick stage one year later. Also a sweetness is developing ever so slowly. I just said "wow" what a difference a year makes to myself......
1st 3rd:
Almost a 3rd in still notes of rich tobacco with cinnamon spice. Woody notes are present as well. Finish I would say is pretty medium. The wind is swirling and pissing me off. :boxing: Cigar is burning fine with some spots were the wrapper is burning just black and not a full ash.(youth) Smoke output is fine as well. Other then that a classic H Upmann cigar. The end of this 3rd is bringing on some very faint hints of a milky cocoa but almost non existent.
Some very small bitterness but still clean imo.
2nd 3rd:
So far start of second third not much change. Cigar is developing into a very medium body cigar. Notes of rich Cuban tobacco, woody and slight milky cocoa (spice has subsided). Burn is ok but the damn wind keeps blowing the cigar into the stinky. Another inch in and this Sir Winston is showing a note of toasted bread. Also the ambient aroma is very pleasing as well. Finish is still med holding on for a min or so per draw. End of 2nd third has slightly more bitterness. Burn is wavering as well. No relights in the 2nd third as well.
Final 3rd:
Plenty of smoke and still a great draw. Burnt tobacco and still that cedar with milky cocoa note. To put it into perspective; if you ever had the pleasure of smoking a Tatuaje Frank. That's that milky cocoa taste I'm referring to! Btw it is said that Pete Johnson loved Sir Winston. (his favorite CC) Maybe thats what he was shooting for in the Tatuaje Tanios?(The Franks cousin cigar) Who knows but him....... Some spice creeping back in and very small amount of saltiness. But that milky cocoa man o man.
Final thoughts:
Better then last year yes. Room for improvement down the road absolutely. Notes of rich Cuban tobacco, cedar, oak, toasted bread, milky cocoa slight saltiness towards the end. med-med full with no nicotine kick. A nice ambient aroma as well. I enjoyed it a lot and am looking forward to a few Sir Winstons from this box in the next few years. Final smoking time 2 hours.
