I know tax is crazy in Canada so I am just curious if anyone still buys CCs there? I plan on crossing the border Monday and will probably stop by La Casa Del Habano (googled it, not sure how it is) to check out the inventory.

Oh and also, can people smoke indoors (bars, lounges, etc) or just outside (parks)?

Cigar emporium (west 6th) has a great inventory and its a really cool store but cigars (cc's and nc's alike) in BC (and Canada in general) are absolutely ridiculous prices. They carry fuente Hemingway short stories at $22 per stick!

There is no smoking indoors, patio's or even close (I think legally it's 6 meters from building entrances).

Good luck.

I was in Vancouver last fall and was stupefied to see the prices of cigars. I thought that they were gouging tourists until I saw that even NC sticks were priced over $20. I bought a couple of RE's that have high reviews, but I won't even share how much I paid for them. It's a sad situation there; particularly when you cannot smoke anywhere, not even outdoor patios. Ironically, you can smoke pot in a licensed lounge because it's an herb and not tobacco. Figure that one out...

The NC stuff is higher priced then the comparable Cubans.

I still buy singles locally if there is something I want to try. Some shops offer sporadic deals, that you have to keep an eye out for, and take advantage of quickly.

I just visited La Casa Del Habano in Toronto for the first time. There prices were on par with everyone else. Super nice store, and they have a good variety of stock from past years. The guy said if I wanted something from a specific year, he could track it down, and there is no additional cost.

Pitty sales I think. I know I throw some sales at them just for support. I suppose you can't count out the rich who have the disposable income to not care, and don't want to deal with importing.

Just got an email with a price list. I won't identify the retailer, as it's not his fault, and this is standard across the board here.

Just some of the boxes I own, or plan on buying... close your eyes if your prone to spontaneous vomiting... also keep in mind these prices DONT include shipping, and provincial and federal sales tax (13% here in Ontario)
Cigar / single / box
Cohiba Robustos $38.61 $965.18
Cohiba Siglo VI $52.12 $1,303.05
Hoyo De Monterrey Double Coronas $34.75 $868.70
Hoyo De Monterrey Epicure No.2 $25.84 $646.00
Montecristo Edmundo $28.90 $722.50
Montecristo No. 4 $21.56 $538.90
RASS $24.91 $622.63
Montecristo No. 2 $30.18 $754.38

Just for shits and giggles
Montecristo A $63.68 $1,592.05
Cohiba Esplendidos $54.23 $1,355.75

Those prices are close here as well. We don't have the extra provincial tax, so it gives us a small advantage.
I try to buy from a shop as much as I can afford, but as you can see, I am not buying a lot. I understand the business' point, where they need to make money too, and it is not their fault for trying to sell a product so highly taxed, but it really is hard for the guys who don't have high paying jobs with lots of liquid cash. Everyone has heard our story about high taxes up here in Canada, by now it shouldn't be much of a surprise lol. We have clean air, water, food and women....now if we could just get the government and weather in line, we would be rockin !

Wow, that is just stupid of the government to have such high taxes. Would you rather get revenue with high tax on very limited sales or a reasonable tax on a lot higher sales. Higher sales with lower taxes is a win-win-win for the economy, government and customers.

Holy...that is crazy! With that kind of money, I'd buy a ticket to Cuba and buy there.

Many of us do. The one restriction there is you only have a personal exemption of 50 sticks per person that you can bring into the country duty free. The other issue is there is always something great about hanging out at a B&M. Without it it you will miss out on a lot of the smoking experience. We have some of the strictest anti smoking laws in the world and some of the worst weather for smoking out side so if you want to find paces to smoke your b&m will put you on the right track.
