Not that there is 100% consensus that the Opus X is the most sought after cigar but generally speaking I think many would agree that it is one of those cigars that has that holy grail reputation in the NC market.

My question is, is there an equivalent stick in the habanos world, or an attainable holy grail stick, or what would be the most sought after habanos stick?

The equivalent would be the Cohiba Behike, in terms of reputation/flash.

Like the Opus X, it's kind of touted as an exemplary cigar, known even to those who have very little knowledge of cigars, chased and desired by noobs, well-loved by many cigar smokers, but often ignored in favor of other, less-known brands by other smokers.

Another similarity: they both need like five years of age to be worth the price tag.

I ask this because I am expecting my first born, a son, and am considering a celebratory smoke, possibly one that would go on to be an annual type of thing as he ages through childhood.
I was looking at the Behike and started looking at LEs but I really don't have an honest clue. It's a whole different beast from NCs and I have yet to catch up to speed.

Thanks for all the replies.

I looked at Behikes for my kids as well, but the 10ct boxes cancelled that idea. I wanted a 25ct box. My idea is to let them age five years, then smoke one every year starting around their 6th birthday, smoke one with them each year from 18-21, and give them the remaining five to do with as they please. For my girls, if they chose not to smoke, I'll give the remaining sticks to their husbands as a wedding gift. If they never get married and don't want to smoke, I'll smoke em myself, thankyouverymuch!

I would look at a higher-end RE or LE if possible, or just one of your absolute favorite regular production sticks. And you may want to wait for a few months after he's born, as it's a lot easier to find appropriate box codes that way.

I have PL robo REs and short belis REs for my older two, and reg production sticks for my youngest three girls... PSD5's for my middle daughter, and Monte 2 and BBFs for my twin girls.

Originally, would have put the Behike as the reputation equivalent but after thinking of it the Behike is more of a Lost City equivalent...probably the standard Cohiba Robusto or Monte 2 is the equivalent. Opus isn't the nearly unattainable cigar it once was.

Edit: As for the celebratory cigar, get something you just like that can also age well. I'd personally go with a BBF or a Partagas 898.

A "wow" name is the Cohiba Behike. But as others have said, it's only a 10-ct box. A handful of regular production cigars is what you should choose from IMO. JFire gave a good list above but I would add Cohiba Esplendido. I personally have Cohiba Robustos for my daughter's birth month and Cohiba Lanceros for my son's. I have a few others, but I'm keeping those sealed up until they are 18. :)

Ninja is a connoisseur for sure ( didn't mean for that to rhyme....yes I did! ) and he knows his cigars and I agree with his assessment and would add the Cohiba Espy to that list...they are both the same price basically but since I love them both I'd go with the Espy. What I won't tell you is that there is another cigar on the market that mirrors the Opus X for half the cost...once I get a few more boxes I can divulge what that cigar is as I have done a review on it about 3 years ago and gave away the name and the Vendor. A week later I couldn't get any so now I tend to keep my sources a bit hidden until I have what I need first...yes, I can be very selfish at times.

I went through all of my reviews on several Forums and came up with the cigar that was just as good and tasted a lot like an Opus.....here is the cigar: A. Fernandez Signature Series Churchill....now the bad news....they don't make em anymore and haven't seen one in a couple of years. I even sourced them with A Fernandez....nada! When I had my first one I thought I'd died and gone to Cigar Heaven because at the time they are like $5 - $6 a stick...so I bought 4 boxes of them and only have a box and a half at with all of the rest they have on them....omg!

Man... I used to have a fairly good stock on the maduros, but never tried the regular.
