So some of you may know I am the proud owner of a female weimaraner pup which is six months old. Well last night she ate the zipper off her second crate pad. Today when I got home I found that she had pulled the cover back because the zipper was gone and ate a hole through a cushion cell holding recycled memory foam that's all chopped up.

So off to the garage I go with the circular saw and plywood I have on hand. She got a cute 28"x42" piece of plywood with a couple support boards screwed in underneath.

Sure beats paying $30 for another dog bed bound to be destroyed. She can chew on the piece of plywood of which I think I paid like $10 for the sheet.

So now it's time to see how she takes to her new "bed". If she only knew I was planning on taking her out in the woods today to do a little hunting.

That is a great idea, I have two giant labs that live in the garage in a run during the winter months, they shred every single piece of bedding I put in there...Then proceed to eat it... Jerks..

What a beautifull dog! Great idea too!

My problem of late has been my 5 month old golden retriever peeling up the linoleum flooring in my kitchen... Another project to add to the list! :cursing:

LOL! Weims are beautiful dogs!

I've got a Great Dane (Samson) that chewed/ate both of the front corners of the outbuilding/shed from ground level to waist level or so...I guess the painted wood tasted better than the chew toys, cow leg bones, etc. that I gave him? I don't know...I'm REALLY glad that he's over his chewing stage!

I bet a Great Dane has some jaw power and possesses the ability to do some serious chewing. She'll get over it eventually but until I think she is she sleeps on plywood and blankets.

I have kept my llewellyn setter in her kennel at nights, ever since I brought her home. She is fine when everyone is around, and is a fantastic hunting dog but if she was left on her own she would probably eat my couch. I don't know what her problem is but I have lost about four hats, a few shoes, and quite a few blankets to her on the rare times she has been allowed to stay out of the kennel. Thankfully she likes the kennel and considers it "home". We did try a dog bed when she was about 10 months old, thinking she may have calmed down a little bit. Woke up to a shredded dog bed, a shredded decorative pillow and half of a shoe.

I remember those days well. When I brought home my pup 8 years ago (lab/boxer mix) I thought I might have brought home the devils spawn.

It took some patience, a lot of work, and 3 TV remotes, 2 pairs of glasses, an makeup bag, 4 hats, 2 pieces of furniture, and some other odds and ends...

...but I finally got through to her and now I have what I believe is one of the most friendly, mild mannered, well behaved dogs on the planet. Everyone who meets her gushes over what a sweetheart she is.

Good luck. Keep working with her and she'll eventually get past that destructive phase.

Damn dude even I don't have memory foam bedding! My pits sleep on blankets, the tiny ones think my bed blongs to them and are often found occupying my pillow.

Had one golden lab which decide to dig WWI style trenches thoughout the yard. I'll never have another lab and just give me the most lazy dog in the world. Got a wonderful boxer now and getting a Dobe for Christmas.
