Bought a box of cigars you had never tried because it seemed like such a great deal you could not pass it up? If so, how many times were you sorry you mad the purchase?

I only did it once and I regretted it. It was a box of Acids and even though in started on Acids I quickly grew out of them.

More times than I want to remember, I have a bad habit of sight pruchases, if they look good and are cheap, buy it. The only good thing is, I have a friend that will smoke anything and I usually pass them on to him at a discounted price just to unload them. I do mean He WILL smoke anything. A dog turd if it will light....

I do this with some regularity... (a habit Ive got to stop)...

Ill go somewhere like famous, CI, etc.. to place an order.. and will check out their clearance and/or sale section... see something that just looks like too good a deal to pass up... and will make a box purchase...

Ive only flat out regretted it a couple of times (ended up with something that I absolutely could not stand..).. most the time it ends up being a minor regret... the stick is something that is "ok".. and probably worth what I paid for it.. but not much more.. and I probably should have spent the money on something else that I would like better.. etc..etc..

Every now and then I hit the jackpot though...

The first asylum mini coronas I ever bought was a box purchase/clearance deal... I think I paid about $45 for the box.. I thought at that price.. I cant go wrong.. if they suck.. someone else will want them.. etc..etc.

Been buying them by the box ever since.. they quickly became one of my "go to" short smokes.. only took a couple of them.. and I was hooked..

I'm still new enough that I haven't ever bought a box of cigars. Hope I don't end up regretting any I do buy though.

I havent had this problem with impulse buying something cheap, but this is my issue all to often with purchasing LE or HTF sticks. You go through the chase, spend premium money, and end up with a product that you don't like. And even after all that if it's not Tat or DE you'll still lose money getting rid of it. I still haven't learned my lesson yet, however.

Right Here.
I figure if they're LE or HTF, there's a reason for it...so I'll take a chance and buy a box untested. If they're on clearance or ridiculously cheap...there's also a reason for that, and therefore I stay clear of them. So far so good, haven't regretted any "yet".

Regularly. I always buy boxes. Many moons ago I fell for the CI descriptions and bought a few that were awful. Most I dumped. I still occasionally get a box that while recommended just doesn't sit well. Those I usually smoke unless they just can't be salvaged. I have found bargains rarely are what they say they are. Unless someone I know highly recommends I stay to known manufacturers i like

I have bought tons of boxes without ever trying the cigar first. I would say that I've only been disappointed about 10% of the time. Research and reviews do help with figuriing if the cigar will fit your tastes or not. If you don't enjoy it, you can get your money back if its Tats, Ligas or CCs. If it's Viajes... Well. Good luck with that. With that mindset I probably miss out on trying out a lot of the new brands or boutique brands but collecting/smokings cigars is an expensive hobby. It's just extra protection on my purchases.

One of my first box purchases was a 25 count box of Undercrown Corona Dobles. It's not that they are a bad cigar, but I lost interest in them after about 10 smoked. Too big and one-dimensional. That left me with 15 to trade and bomb away. I usually stick to 10 count boxes now.

Quality over quantity
and when buying quantity make sure they are quality (to your standards)
a half filled humi with great sticks beats a sub par full one, everytime...0.02

I can't say that I have ever been truly disappointed in a cigar that I bought a box of, but I can say I have bought a box of something that I wished was better. Does that make sense?

Yes I have and only a couple regrets, but I learned quick to buy 5ers of everything first to try and sample. I have on the other hand bought some impulse box purchases that are great to use in bombs and people that are just getting into smoking. What strongleaf said is so true though about a 1/2 full humi of great sticks hands down is better than a sub par full one. +1 amigo So true.

I like to stick to smaller boxes if at all possible, but I would say I'm thrilled 50% of the time, just satisfied 25% of the time, and downright disappointed 25% of the time.

I've done this many times on CBID. Sometimes they're just so cheap, you figure you'll either like it and smoke it, or bomb/give away the box.

I do read a review or two to make sure it sounds like something decent.
