About a year ago I smoked a HDM double corona over a friends house and lacking anything to take notes on (as I normally do when a cigar piques my interest) I made a mental note to try to find some more. Being so long ago I admit that I remember only that it was a very long but pleasant experience. While I suppose I could just go about finding some more I tend to really enjoy the smaller vitolas, with petite coronas being my favorite. I've never had anything else from the HDM line so I guess what I'm asking for is a recommendation of a smaller HDM vitola and/or a smaller cigar from any line that would best replicate the HDM double corona (if that's even possible).

This is a great question. The HDM line is one of the most widely debated. Some are entralled with the softer flavors and subtle tastes, others find it a total bore. I am in the first group. Might I suggest looking for a box of Hoyo Des Dieux SLB - 25 cigars [6.0 x 42], or the Hoyo Du Maire - 25 cigars [3.9 x 30]. Although the Hoyo du Maire is a slightly smaller cigar, it does deliver on the HDM promise. The same can not be said for the HDM Palmas Extra. This is a fine cigar, with some hints of the HDM profile, but ultimately falls a short.

I would also recommend trying the H. Upmann PC, a stunning smooth Habano.

Enjoy,
Cheers

I too, really enjoy the HdM line. Although larger than what you are looking for, I find the Des Dieux and Epicure Especial to be stellar smokes.

I've only had one HdM, and it was just two days ago actually! It was a du Roi (I think they're discontinued now) that someone gave me, and it was a great morning smoke. There was a cherry flavor in it that I really liked.

These are some of the most underrated CC ,IMO, out there.

I tripled down on 01 de Dauphin and the 06 Coronas are also great. They can still be found with a little research.

Smoke them slow and enjoy.

OMG, the first HDM was awesome and awesomely frustrating.

Lovely and complex flavors, that plugged just when I was at heaven's door! :)

I welcome my next experience. The ride was short, but great while it lasted.

The HdM epicure no. 2 is one of my two favorite habanos. It is a great smaller size with lots of flavor and thick, creamy smoke. Usually pay between $8-11 for them. I highly recommend them.

Isn't that about the same size as the Epicure Especial? How do they differ?
