hello everyone.
im a novice smoker interested in learning much more about the cigar lifestyle. live and always lived in the central NJ area. OIF veteran and correction officer. 35 yrs old.
my friend and I are starting a private members only cigar club in downtown New Brunswick, nj. we have a handful of people interested in starting it up with us. we have a prime location, (we own an empty building), a large apartment size space and are in need of further advice such as monthly dues, necessities, ideas.... anything useful. we cannot sell cigars, its not retail, no employees, etc, just a private club run entirely by its members.
any advice?

thanks in advance guys n gals, looking forward to reading more threads/ posts from everyone.

Real spanish cedar walkin humi, proper ventilation for smoke, full bar, never leave door open to outside, keep temps at 70. Make sure it is comfy. Good seats, cigar locker rental, and don't go low end on liquor.

Elect an operating committee and develop a mission statement and a set of rules for the club. Live by and never waiver from them as your club grows from idea to reality. Everything you do for the club should be based on the mission and rules, which will help weed out impulse decisions and personality conflicts that no doubt will arise as you grow. Best of luck!

Great advice. Form a committee and stick to the rules and mission statement. I live in North Jersey and work in Union. I'd be up getting involved.

we have the rules established, aka by-laws. I stress they cannot be compromised but can be altered at a large majority of the members discretion. the mission statement is a great idea. it will sum up what we are all trying to accomplish. thanks mdsphoto and happy new year

thanks, I saw the original advice and found it very useful. I had similar ideas in mind but its great having them validated as solid 'things to do' when starting such club. I friend requested you. are you a member of a similar club. perhaps you'd make a great contact at our ground breaking phase we're are in. maybe you can fill an advisor role.
keep in touch

hows it going Lipher. it will be a byob/byoc lounge. as part of the gov't regulations, we cannot legally sell booze or cigars. but we may keep a stockpile for members to individually choose from, or lockers, whatever. these are the decisions we must make early on, hence any advice is useful. I will PM you.
thanks

Hey Puff, welcome! If you'd like lockers or a walk-in built, our shop has a guy who specializes in custom closets. He is an awesome guy and a cigar smoker. I can put you in touch with him if you're interested.
