Did you know that under Hawaii Revised Statute 486-120.6, coffee may be labeled "Kona Coffee Blend" with as little as 10 percent Kona, and yep most Kona blends do contain 90 percent "anonymous coffees"?

The Big Island Council recently voted to urge the state Legislature to require 75 percent Kona coffee in Kona blends and to require Kona blend labels to specify precisely where the contents come from, including how much of the non-Kona contents are U.S.-grown and how much are foreign.

Under the proposed local Hawaiian legislation roasters can continue to choose to use Kona coffee as a blend component to any percentage that they wish in a blend provided that the blend has a proprietary name. When a blend is to be sold as a blend labeled "Kona Blend" then and only then the Kona componant must be no less than 75% so as not to mislead consumers. Each operator's conscience requires that all coffees sold as a single origin contain coffee of that origin only.

I wish it was that easy, T. This only helps Kona farmers for sales on the island. Roasters in other states do not have to follow Hawaii's laws.

For the real deal: caveat emptor.

Most definitely...all of the "Kona Blend" I have seen in the supermarkets contains NO Kona coffee...even says 100% Columbian on it!

Yea when you see a bag of it at BJ's Wholesale very cheap(even though they buy in massive bulk) I just am not sure about it.
Holy crap - I just looked at few places online and that stuff goes for $50 a pound. You guys would kick my ass if I told you what kind of coffee I drink...

Its very hard to get the real stuff with so many false blends around. I love pure Kona but have only been able to get in on the Big Island. and your right about Jam Blue.
