I realize it's going to be quite a while till I will be able to catch the classes required to get my CCW in Missouri. However, I also know that I'm not just wanting to get that to be able to carry more places-but to protect our rig while traveling. That being said, does anyone know where I would go to find information on keeping one in my RV? I'm not particularly concerned with having it in my actual truck-but behind us in the other rig while driving. It is literally for home protection, my home just happens to be towed all over the country.

Where do I go for more information on this?

I'm not sure where you can get more info.?

But from what I've been told and as you mention. A RV is like a house and you can carry whatever you want in it as long as it's within the state guidelines.

Ex: If your going to California don't take your AK as it's on the states banned list of weapons.

I actually just did a google search, and have started to find a tiny bit of info. It certainly seems that people do keep firearms in their RV's, but I still need to dig to see more about how rules will vary from state to state-like that AK thing.

I know in North Carolina permits to possess handguns is handled through the Sheriff's Department, you might want to check with them first. But it may also entail checking with each one in every state/jurisdiction you travel through.

J, it all depends on where you are. You need to check your state laws and the laws for any State you are traveling to in your RV. It also depends on what you mean by "keeping" in the RV. You can have just about anything in the RV so long as it is not loaded and not readily accessible. Of course, it doesn't sound like that's what your going after. If you want something fairly accessible you really need to check your state laws. Here in FL for instance I can have my pistol fairly accessible (in a glove box, for instance), but the law is not the clearest in the world so there is room for problems without a CCW. Obviously, the best bet is to have the CCW, but beyond that you really need to know the local laws. Keep in mind that even having your CCW won't necessarily solve the issue if you travel out of state. At that point you need to look into whether the states you are traveling to/through recognize your state's CCW.

These are some great books.

Get a nonresident permit for Utah, and Florida. Utah requires a class, and Florida requires a basic firearm safety course. Those two states should cover you for most states in the country. I'm planning on getting one from florida shortly and then work on taking classes for Utah. My PA license to carry doesn't work in any states surrounding PA. Florida and Utah would have me covered though.
