Hey everybody, recently I was given some Cohiba Maduro 5 cigars and was wondering about their authenticity. The box they were in when I received them didn't have a tax seal on it, but it did have the stamp and markings on the bottom.

I personally haven't ever smoked this Cohiba so I wouldn't be able to tell if they were real or fake.

The one thing I did notice is they both have nice triple caps on them.

Below are some pictures to help determine the authenticity. I appreciate it tremendously.

If you need a better shot at the label just let me know. It was hard to get the reflective Maduro 5 without using flash and distorting the bands color.

Hard to tell by pictures. If those 2 cigars supposedly came out of the same box, look at the top of the 2 bands... tell a difference? One band has a lot more black spacing on the top than the other. Normally I don't care too much about band details, but usually cigars (especially Cohiba) coming out of the same box have the same bands because they stick on one right after another. Odds of having 2 different kinds of bands one after another are pretty slim.

And to nitpick, both of the triple caps on the cigars are not that great. Again normally not something I care too much about, but Cohiba quality is supposed to be better than the average cigar.

I didn't even notice that on the bands with the black part. Also I didn't know that Cohiba's triple caps were almost perfect all the time.

Thanks for the info. Guess I got some Fohibas, atleast they were given to me

Same here, I got a Cohiba from a friend thought it was real for the longest time but just found out it wasn't real. I was devastated. I was saving it for a very special occasion.

What makes you think it's not real?

There are a few things that make me think this one is fake, one of the most well known issues is the C in Cuba is not suppose to cross thought the bottom part of the C

Regarding the OP, I can't tell, but I'm not the best source to verify a CC since I am still learning myself. The only concern I see is what Ryan already mentioned, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are fakes.

Definitely a faker. Sucks because it sure looks nice. Hopefully it will taste good anyway.

If it is fake toss it...many stories on here of cutting open fakes and finding plastic, trash and hair. Remember...people faking Cubans tend to not care what is inside the cigar. And tobacco is more expensive then trash...

I've owned several boxes of these cigars and I'm going to go with real. (For once) the top band isn't enough for me to say fake. Everything else says real. Send me a pm and maybe a little more info from you may help.

And as far as the Cohiba EL picture. For every new guy on the board..... If you ever receive a EL Cohiba as a gift. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ASSUME IT'S FAKE UNTIL YOU FIND OUT THE ORIGINAL SOURCE!!! They are often to rare or expensive to just be gifted out. Not to mention the million plus fakes on all the beach resorts.

I have 2 Maduro 5 in my humidor. They are for my dad and I am my wedding next year.

I look at the 2 and I believe they are also real. The band having a slight more black isnt that big of a difference and it looks like the picture caused it.

Tonight I will pull my 2 out for you and post a picture so you can see both of mine and you can compare as mine came from La Casa Del Habano in Cuba

I think the most important question is, who gave them to you?

Second, you mentioned the box... can you post pictures of it?

FWIW the caps on the maduros look right. the cap is one of the first things they bone in a fake.

hope they are solid. to me, they look to be smokeable, and enjoyable. o)

Everything looks okay, except for the "C". The cigar feels nice, cap is decent. I'm hoping the cigar is at least decent.

And it was given to me from a very good friend who only smokes CCs. Maybe he got a bad batch or just overlooked that "C".

The one I smoked was great and definitely legit imo. Thanks for all the info guys!
Well done Grasshopper, truly the ONLY way to tell.Do not expect perfect bands and perfect construction from Cuba.

The Limitada band with the odd "C " and the off shade of yellow has been seen on fakes for many years, amazing that the fakers are still using it.I have seen many of them, and still see them often even now.

The white boxes of the bottom row of boxes appear to be bigger than the others. This may be an illusion, but that does not look right.

Also one picture shows a band coming apart at the seams. The Cohiba bands I have seen have a good 1/2" of overlap and are pretty well glued.
