Personally, I know it's not always the best solution, but I like how this mom handled it. Given, I'm a young man, and not a parent, given that I was also bullied a lot and beat on... I mean, she can't follow him through the school and protect him, and she can't tell the boys' parents, that'll just make them beat him all the harder... Maybe a knife and BB gun isn't the best solution, but give him a bat, or a night stick... Something more "fair" and less "unreasonable force", so that if they gang up on him, he can start wailing around without risk of cuts or other similar damage...

Again, I'm thoroughly biased, but I'd rather see the kid thoroughly protected, than see him beaten for some other kid(s)' amusement.

And people wonder how Columbine happened?

"These are not ordinary kids who were bullied into retaliation," psychologist Peter Langman writes in his new book, Why Kids Kill: Inside the Minds of School Shooters. "These are not ordinary kids who played too many video games. These are not ordinary kids who just wanted to be famous. These are simply not ordinary kids. These are kids with serious psychological problems
According to Cullen, one of Harris' last journal entries read: "I hate you people for leaving me out of so many fun things. And no don't … say, 'Well that's your fault,' because it isn't, you people had my phone #, and I asked and all, but no. No no no don't let the weird-looking Eric KID come along."

Klebold, on the other hand, was anxious and lovelorn, summing up his life at one point in his journal as "the most miserable existence in the history of time," Langman notes.

Can't do much if bigger kids gang up on you. The best option would be to fight like hell each and every time so they realize you aren't an easy target.
I got bullied on the bus in 7th grade by a kid who was a foot taller than me. And I was always one of the tallest in my class. He was a grade higher than me and 2 years older. One day we got into a brawl. He got his lip busted open and a busted up nose, and I got a black eye.

Good times.

Reminds me of when I was a kid. A kid was picking on my sister on the bus, so my brother beat him up and got kicked off the bus for a week. Four years later I started riding the bus and this same kid decides he's gonna take out his anger on me. Tortured me for four days. On Friday, I had enough, and I beat him up. Kicked off the bus for a week. Guy didn't mess with anyone anymore after getting whooped by a 7th grader.

The problem is that school systems in general (at least, this is my experience, and the experience of the people I've talked to on my campus) do not discourage bullying, moreover, they don't punish bullying... However, if you defend yourself, or literally knock some sense into your bully, you're the bad-guy, and you get punished... Do I advocate giving your kid a knife? Not at all... Do I think that you should give your kid some way to fight back? Hell yes.

Problem is that a "Bus brawl" today wouldn't get you kicked off the bus, It'd get you kicked out of the school.
