So... Where to begin?

I'm a college student (freshman) at the University of Alabama and I'm thinking that I want to get into cigars. I've done some research and have found this forum to be one of the best symbols of camaraderie that I could ever find. My cigar experience is very limited. One cheap cigar from a tobacco store at the beach and a couple of cigarillos. I'm mainly looking for any advice I can get, such as a good lighter, cutter, and most importantly cigars that would work out for a newb that's in college and has practically no experience.

I'd like to point out that I'm not wanting to get into this for a nicotine addiction or anything like that, I don't really smoke that often. I am just looking for a way to relax and spend an hour or so each week enjoying a fine cigar.

I'd like to say thanks in advance, because I've seen the level of brotherhood that is shown between the members and I trust there to be some good advice.

Welcome to BOTL, Hunter. There are many knowledgeable brutha's here who can point you in the right direction. Also, keep an eye on the marketplace, as you'll see a great deal on a beginner humidor...etc..etc.

Welcome! I've only been here a few days myself and have already found it a great resource (for cigars and things comical and entertaining...check out some of the posts on the Picture Uno and This or That threads....).

Welcome brother! You definitely did find a great place to hang out and learn the ropes.

I would recommend reading posts to see some reviews and get some pointers from some of the vets. Look through the Want To Sell sections as people do post some good newbie samplers for good prices so you can get some different brands to try. There are a few online sites that have great prices on samplers and 5-packs which is a good way to learn what you might like. Some of the sites even have new customer samplers where you can get a decent 20-count humidor and 8-10 cigars for $15 and deals like that. So just start searching and trying, everyone's tastes are different.

Have fun!

Welcome Hunter! I live in Birmingham, and there are some great local cigar shops around here. If you're ever in B'ham let me know. I guess it doesn't hurt to be friendly to an Alabama student/fan every once in a while. I'll ask around and see if there are any good shops for you to visit up in T Town.

Welcome Hunter from an SEC Alumni. Ditto to all the above post. Read some of the reviews of different cigars and find you a good sampler pack to try. Just remember that nobody's taste is the same. You may like some that others don't. It's about finding what you enjoy and you just have to try them to know if you like it or not.
