Let say you have had stogies shipped in very subzero temperatures (think -40) - how long a rest would be needed to ensure avoiding any sick period?

is one-two weeks enough?

I know some people deep freeze every sticks before putting them with the others, pest-control style. Then, how long is the required resting period?

Thanks for any opinion and suggestion.

For temperature related issues, you just need to let them rest to long enough to return to room temp.

If previous frozen it is a good idea to let them sit in the fridge for two to three days first before allowing to rest in the humidor.

ps: Make sure the cigars are well seal before putting them in the fridge otherwise they could absorb unwanted odors.

^^^I agree. I did forget to write that I put mine in the fridge for a day and then at room temp for a few hours before the wineador.

Good question as we always want our cigars to be at the optimum...I hope we do. Anytime I order cigars and they get to me I tend to err on the side of caution because some places do not keep the kind of RH that I prefer so I will let my cigars acclimate to my humidor for at least month so they can be balanced when I want to smoke them. Think of it like this....if you like your beer ice cold instead of at room temperature you will be patient and let your better settle to the temperature that you like....with cigars that tends to take more time and for me a month is not a long time to wait unless you don't have a "deep" humidor where you have others to smoke. Tobacco isn't something you can change the chemistry in a few days or even a week to 'rush' the flavor profile. It needs a little time to acclimate and get the tobacco to a RH that you like...as early as 2 weeks for thinner wrappers and about a month for maduros and other thicker wrappers.

I thawed some petit corona cigars to room temperature over the course of a day and I didn't notice any change at all in flavor or texture. A thicker cigar might take 2-3 days at least.
