This afternoon I had a couple check in from San Diego, They must have gone to see the grand cayon and are stopping at the Wigwam to stay. After chatting with them for a minute or two. I told the guy he can enjoy a cigar by the poolside.

He goes "cigars? man I have a travel humidor with me, I love AF", I told him I had a cabaiguan Miami. He said he never heard of it. Half hour later comes to my office with one of his favorite cigars "Dona Ines" made by Thompson. My mouth almost dropped, I think he wanted to "trade", I asked him what kinds of AF he was packing in the humidor, he started to mentioned the "left-overs of the good tobacco at AF", in my head I knew they were Cuban sandwiches. Should I bite this dam bullet and take the hit, or avoid the situation and call the desk clerk in early.

I agree.
Before I found a home here and before a couple friends started smoking with me I had no idea the differences in cigars.
Maybe you should trade and enjoy a smoke with him. See if he has any questions that you could help him with. It might just help him along his journey and make him a fellow BOTL.

He needs education and will thrive from your input, even if you bring a cigar for each of you and tell him you'll save the other. Good idea pointing him to the board.

After posting this thread. Something made me realize; that it is not about the money, or which is a better cigar, but about the leaf and the types of people, cultures and community we keep with our unique interest in smokes. I have called my old lady up and mentioned to her to grab a la aurora vintage 2003, a frank, and a joya de nicaragua machito. I will let him smoke the frank with me and gift him the others. Thanks for enlightening me.

When I first started smoking in 2001 I purchased a 4 [pack of La Gloria Cubana Wavell W/ the hard plastic cigar tubes and a butane lighter from "T's" I've still got the lighter and 2 of the cigar tubes. And well I've not looked back since.

That's the way to do it. Never look down upon what someone else smokes unless it's a Phillies loaded with pot.

Everyone starts somewhere and it's a chance meeting like the one you had that starts someone else down the long road towards having way too many cigars.

Make sure you mention BoTL.org when you give them the smokes though.

I have to say, it was a great experience. The guy sure does love his Thompson cigars. Actually, the cigar he gave me was outstanding, great taste, great burn. To find out, the guy is a huge, huge pipe smoker. He actually brought many pipe's with him. A two hour session & I experienced and learned allot. Felt some what bad, since it was his 25th anniversary with his wife, but she was very understanding, and they are very nice folks.
