Did a search and surprisingly found little on the Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona. Would you consider this a full bodied cigar or more medium?

How does it compare to the Bolivar and Partagas line (like the Bolivar Churchill or Partagas #2)?

I'd like to know about recent production in the last couple of years, not the pre-98 or so.Thanks in advance! :chat:

HDM DC's are very good, though medium (at best) strength. I believe it has a much more similar in flavor profile to a Bolivar than Partagas, though as stated, maybe 1/2 the strength.

I smoked my first one on Saturday during the final 4 games. It was ok, but probably not something I would buy a box of. Prefer SLR DC's, Lusi's, RAG's & VRDA's better.

I recently smoked an 09 Hoyo DC and it was very good. It started out mild-medium and gradually increased in body. Standout flavors were cedar, cream, and light roast coffee. By the final third it was well into full bodied and the standout flavor was toasted tobacco. Not at all what I was expecting from an Hoyo!

It was enjoyable, but I wouldn't buy a whole box. Give me a SLR DC or Don Alejandro! I would easily like to have 4 or 5 Hoyo DCs on hand though. As far as comparisons to a Partagas or Bolivar, I would say there are none. Hoyos and Parti/Boli are worlds apart in almost every aspect.

I liked the HDM DC I had but like most DC, it is more a light to medium smoke and it doesn't really kick off until you're halfway through. You have to like it when it starts lightly and slowly.

only smoked ones from the late 90s to 2004. Light to medium at best. I don't find them as complex as a ramon allones gigantes. Maybe get a sampler pack of VRDAs, RAGs and Hoyo DCs to see what you like best before you commit to a box.

For a long time, the HDC was my fave double corona. Had a few boxes, both from 03 and 05 I believe.

Both smoked brilliantly. I can't call it a strong cigar by any stretch, but certainly for a large rg and length like that, it smoked beautifully. Very subtle flavors, and nicely complex.
