Ok, I know this hasn't been my stance thus far but things have changed recently. between meeting Jeff and several other cops on BOTL and my recent re-enlightenment towards doing the right thing i have come to an understanding that cops are here to help. But this is the cherry on top...

I got a call from Dectective Johnson of the Huntington Beach Police Dept this morning. I'm thinking F ME!! What did I do now? He asks me about some lady Norma Trujillo. II recognize the name from some checks that were stolen when my wife's car was broken into. She cashed 2 checks totaling $1100. I had already reported them stolen, so Inever had to pay that money. However she/they also stole my wifes Chanel sunglasses ($300) and the key to my Jag ($268 replacement and progaming). The Perp has been Kiteing checks at her local bank who in turn reported her to the police for check fraud. When reviewing the acct they noticed some large checks that had stop payments put on them. This lady and her group of thugs have been stealing from cars and houses all over for the last few months, looking for check books, credit cards identification and any other small items of value. The detective said they would be serving a warrant at her residence in the next couple of days and will look for my stuff. If they find it, it will add Grand Theft to her list of federal and local charges. Also there were several other cars broken into the night of mine, and she will most likely be charged with those as well. In an attempt to identify my sunglasses the detective sent me an email with photos of her wearing a piar of shdes, but alass those weren't mine. I was tld when we made the original reprot that there would be no investigation because there were bigger fish to fry. We may not get our stuff back, but justice is about to be served in a big way.

We had found her MySpace page back when we got a copy of the checks, but given her friends we decided it would be better not to appraoch her on our own. See for yourself, here is a link to her myspace and one of the pics the cop sent me.

UPDATE:

So i got an email today from the dectective asking how I found her myspace page. I should have responded "Good old fashioned Detective work" LOL But instead I explained that with a name or email and a general location you can find almost anyone. He said her admissions to being a theif and drug user are going to be used against her in getting a warrant and in court. He is go to the DA today to get a warrant and serve it when she comes home from work. I'll let you know if I get my stuff back.

I had someone rip us off for $50k+ in small amounts over six months

She agreed to probation, and has to pay back $4k

That's all they felt could be proved

Hope your situation turns out better :stickbeat

As a former police officer, I can attest that not all cops are bad. Yes, there are a few rotten apples, that can be said of any and all professions.

I hope you get all your stuff back and that she gets the punishment and rehabilitation (if that's possible) that she deserves. As for her friends, we have a High Tech Crimes Unit which focus on things like this. You would not believe that a couple of months ago that in a joint Task Force Operation we took down over 40 Gang Bangers and their primary communication tool was M<ySpace, some personal websites for Gang members as well as wesites tags Hate Group sites and text messages...

"All right! MapQuest the address!"
"I'll use Google Maps. It has live traffic."
