I never thought I'd be part of one of those "my friend game me this cuban" stories you often hear. But sure enough, I am now.

I went to a local B&M during my lunchbreak at work. I had to pick up an ashtray and some butane fuel. I found a customer of mine smoking in the lounge. He brings in his car to my dealership fairly often. Luckily, I remembered his name..or that would have been a little akward. We talked for about 15 minutes and I got in my car to leave. I seen him on his way to his car as I was pulling away and he flagged me down. He said "I've got something for you". He proceeded to pull out a cigar from one of his travel tubes. "It's a cuban..a Montecristo". I said "Wow, thanks..is this a #4?". He goes..."No, it's a #2, I've got a whole box of them..says #2 right on the box..my daughter is in Puerto Rico right now and mailed it to me".

I didn't have the heart to tell him a #2 is a torpedo, or that it's a counterfeit. Here's a pic of the #2. I'm going to keep it in the top drawer of my cabinet..in it's own little corner. It's a nice memory, I just want to keep it isolated so I don't accidentally smoke it. It'll serve as a nice little story.

Well I don't want to take the chance that it's filler has banana peels and hair in it. It could be a #4 as it's close to the size..but the cigar smells nothing like a Habano, the wrapper looks horrible..it's got spots all over it..and plus it came from Puerto Rico. The band looks good, but Montecristo has to be one of the most copied cigars out there, next to maybe Cohiba.

Yeah the pic doesn't do justice to how bad this wrapper looks. But, I didn't start the thread to rip on one man's generosity. I appreciate the thought...I hope I see him again sometime soon so I can educate him on cigars in general. One day he'll look back on the "#2" and laugh.

Nice way to represent the brotherhood. Perhaps you can share with him a real Habano treat and enter him into this great hobby.

The last time I saw veins that big and ugly was when Rosie Odonell went to the beach ..... FAKE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

About 4 or 5 years ago I was visiting the Latino neighborhood here in Detroit and someone tried to sell me a box of phoney Montes #4 for $500.00. The wrapper/veins were just as bad as the above.

I have a similar story with a good friend of mine. It was very awkward becuase he swore up and down this was the best cuban he had. It was a monte white label in a tubo that someone in mexico pulled the SG warning off of the tubo and rebanded.

I think he realised it later because through no action of my own, he stopped smoking with me one day and avoids talking to me about cigars.
