If I had to move to Philadelphia, I should look...?

Long story short, might be moving for some life changes/career stuff. There are a multitude of possibilities, but Philadelphia is looking the best (unless I can convince the wife to head back to Los Angeles), or unless we mix up a bunch of stuff here to stay in San Diego.

So Philadelphia is Plan C, but the one I know least about. I can tell you this:

Logistics
I'll be working from home 4 days a week
1 day a week, I'll have to be in NYC

Wants
Distance from neighbors
Access to city, without city living.

Looking at these counties, but open to others...

Berks
Chester
Lancaster

I grew up in Bucks County in a town called Perkasie, but have lived in Doylestown, Richboro, Ivyland, and Sellersville as well (in addition to Portland and Denver, but they don't help you!).
I'm currently residing in South Philly, and I love it. But I don't think it hits on all the marks for which you are looking.

not sure about any of the other places... but Chester sucks (IMO).. small town with a crime rate like a large city (worse than many large cities).. and a complete assclown for a police commissioner (again.. my opinion.. but.. if you want to know more.. information isnt hard to find.. just google Chester Police Commissioner.. get his name.. then google the name... and look at some of the news feeds.. I dont think he is an assclown because of the Chester crime rate.. although his assclownery might be a factor.. I think he is an assclown.. because of "other" things he is involved in (PM for more information if you would like it..))...

if thats any indication of leadership in city government... thats a city I would keep my wife and kids the hell out of...

Chester city is a septic pool of "no thank you." It's in the south eastern portion of the county.

Western Chester County is a whole other ball of wax. I think Famous Smoke is out there, as well as @problemsolverjc, and @bigbill72 (chime in here, fellahs).


edit: Okay... i lied. I was think Jimbo and Famous were in Exton, but they are Easton.

Lancaster is a haul from NYC and Philly and there is NOTHING to do out there. Bucks has great schools and communities but high COL. Stay away from reading and berks county too. Consider Lehigh county. West of allentown. Great area, an hour and a half out of NYC. Hour to philly. 30 minutes from me easton and Bethlehem are really nice too, but 1.5 to each philly and nyc.

Bucks county probably your best bet for what your looking for....Bensalem (probably the closest to philly) , many others doylestown, landsdale, Phoenixville, hatfield, perkasie, coopersburg, Montgomery township area. Always investigate and ask around because there are "bad" areas in all these places but that's anywhere. Good luck!
