What a sensational story. I'm suprised they haven't enslaved the human race yet . While I don't doubt some fearless insect lover has tried to get some, keeping them as pets are pretty impractical for a few reasons. One being size, you'd have to have a pretty large enclosure to keep a colony of these guys. Another being diet, they eat bees, other wasps, and mantids. Unless you're willing to raise bees to feed to your colony of giant hornets they aren't going to last too long. Another problem is that you're going to have to have specialized equpment to deal with them...not sure that a standard bee suit would really be all that effective :dunno:. Getting them is also frought with difficulties. Due to the potential dangers they pose to our native and domesticated bee populations I'm sure the Dept of Ag keeps an eye on these kinds of things and you probably face some fines or something...could be wrong I didn't acually check this, but that's the way it is with some other insects they won't let me have :hanghead:. Then there's the escaped queen comment...well if an escaped queen managed to get away from someone and it was fertile (yeah they gotta do it like we do) and it somehow managed to construct a nest by itself, then yeah may be a small problem. Thanks for sharing ciggy  and nj, you may want to stock up on hornet spray :dunno: .
