Hi! I hope all are doing good. I just wanted to share that my family and I were on the front page of the Sunday paper in Panama City, Florida!! I am excited at the fact they wrote about us (although we are a bit sad and stressed concerning the reason they did the story).

If anyone is interested, here is the link: http://www.newsherald.com/news/saga-82970-exclusive-sallie.html#slComments

The picture they used for the front page is the 2nd one (it is scrolling 2 on the website). If you don't see our pic for some reason, just click the button to scroll one picture forward.

I guess I can cross "Make the front page of the paper" off my bucket list lol!

Seriously though, I hope things work out but the outlook is not good at all.

Sorry Bro. There have been so many mistakes done in the past that to correct them leaves a wake of disaster.

I just keep telling myself that everything happens for a reason and maybe there might be something bigger and better out there. It would suck badly because it would be 100% of our income but life is never easy.

good looking family. I was a victim of the housing crash in Oct 06. As a subprime second Mtg guy, we were one of the first to go down. Best of luck

Good luck man! This is just another one of those little unknowns that Obama slipped into the healthcare bill, just another exemple of the government taking over.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. The reason my family was on the front page sucks but I guess on the positive side it was nice to have my wife, kids and myself in the paper :)

I don't know how much further I could move up in my job so maybe other opportunities will present themselves.

Hang in there bro!

My wife is working two jobs as I am taking on odd jobs and constantly on the computer looking to get back to work. We have a 6 year old and a mortgage as well.... The ass-backwards government loan "modification" program was useless to us...absoloutely useless.

Hang in there...Beter things will come your way :)

LOL. Student Lending reform was hardly slipped in. It was quite public actually and a tremendous achievement for college students receiving obscene rates on their student loans from private lenders.

Thanks to Obama and his congress this country has it's head up it's ass right now. All we here about is health care this and health care that. Know one is spearheading our economy or saving jobs of the working class. It's really sad and it's good people like yourself that they could care less about. i wish you the best of luck trying to recover in such dark times.

SAFRA was public but honestly though, the wife and I watched C-Span an agonizing 2 days and the debate was about the healthcare part of the reconciliation bill, save 2 people that spent 6 minutes on the student loan reform. It definitely wasn't a secret, it just was sooo overshadowed by healthcare that it didn't get much debate. There was something called the "Community Proposal" that would've saved more money than the govt plan and the 30,000 jobs nationwide that will be eliminated. This proposal wasn't even debated because, from what I have read, it would've been viewed as a victory by "fat cat" bankers if it had been implemented.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help students at all because the rates were set by the government and no private lender could charge more than those set rates. The same interest rates are going to be applied to the loans and the interest is going to go to the government (whether private or Direct Lending is doing the loans). The sad part is the fact that Direct Lending loans were defaulted on 30% more than ones by private lenders, so some of the savings could be a wash. The government could've truly helped students by cutting the subsidies from 6% to 3% but they would not. Ideally, students will not notice a difference besides their payments going to a different place.

Also, the government took way too long to make a decision on this and now colleges have less than 3 months to switch to Direct Lending (over 2000 schools are just now starting to move to DL).

The government is going to have a really hard time funding the students loans because I really don't think they have that kind of manpower. Time will tell and hopefully students will not suffer.
