So I'm currently in Afghanistan and i live right next to the MPs whos have German Shepards with them for bomb sniffing etc. Well there is this one particular K-9 that is the Alpha dog and is always "barking orders" at the other hounds. Well as of yesterday he just got promoted to Sergeant so now im taking orders from this German Shepard. So officially in the Marine Corps I'm outranked by a DOG!!!:crosseyed

The Handlers even make junior Marines stand at Parade rest for Sergeant Hummer!!!:squinteye

That's a doggone shame!

This world is going to the dogs?

They are barking up the wrong tree.

J/K, remember, RHIP Marine!

Semper Fidelis and thanks for your service.

Go slather empty C4 wrappers all over your cammies and see how much Sgt Hummer likes you!
Problem is, the dogs are taught to "sit" at the detection of explosives...not lose their mind barking their ass off...

I know this from experience, having a ruck with det cord and C4 still in it coming through an impromptu customs inspection at the AFB...rather funny, looking back...not so funny at the time, though...

Yup. That's why I thought it'd be funny. I used to work with handlers for training. We'd go grab a couple cases of C4 to overwhelm their senses. They're trained on trace amounts not 60lb quantities so often times they didn't know what to do when first faced with the truck bed full of bang.

They just retired one of the Deutschland sheps this week. Im considering when i get back to the states going to adopt him from lackland AFB in texas. His former handler unfortunately got an other than honorable discharge for fraternizing. so i figure he'll be good and well trained. He has a few medical issues but a Combat Vet none the less. It would good to have someone to relate to after i get out of the Corps officially in August.

I hope you are abble to adopt that dog. I'm sure I'd feel the same way.

It's kind of a funny story but your OP reminded me of it. One of the former Seattle Seahawks football players FB Mack Strong was on sports radio and was talking about his days of playing football back at the university of Georga. He said he never liked Uga the Georga bulldog mascot. As everytime him and the players would fly off to play a game Uga the Bulldog was always in 1st class, while the rest of the players had to fly coach.
