Anyone know how easy/hard it might be to do this? I'm trying to save my parents some money from the Geeksquad. I've done it on a tower before and just wondering how it might be for a laptop before I get into it. It's some type of Gateway with Vista, bought may'be 2 months ago.

Actually, it's easier. Most likely it's just a little panel on the bottom that you remove with one screw. Just make sure you buy the right type. Go to www.crucial.com to check. They may even have the best price, certainly better than Best Buy.

Yeah most laptops have a small panel you remove, pop in or swap out the memory, really not much too it. Just find the ram specs you need by using crucial and then you can shop around to sites like newegg.com to check for better prices once you know what type of ram you need exactly, or just buy directly from crucial or whoever made your laptop.

Ordered some from newegg on sunday and it's here today! And now I can really tell a difference between 512mb and 2GB of RAM! Very nice!

The parents ordered there's from crucial and it's backordered
