What??? Dammit, I literally just got my wife the 3Gs 4 hours ago and have it all set up with some apps!?! :cursing: Oh well, we got the upgrade price of $199 so it wasn't that bad... I however am waiting for the new model to come out!

Wow, that's pretty impressive. How much memory will it have? I might pick one up, just to use as in ipod!

so there is a release date for the 4g?
Nothing official yet, but it's a well-known rumor in the industry especially after the new iphone leak a couple weeks ago. Jobs is expected to announce it on June 7th and all of their iPhone releases have been this same time of year.

The move comes less than two weeks before Apple is expected to introduce its next-generation handset, when Chief Executive Steve Jobs delivers the opening keynote for the annual Worldwide Developers Conference on June 7.

latest rumor i heard was july 9th would be the release date...this would allow participants in the 3g launch to buy without incurring early termination fees.

this would be a good deal if it was un-locked...

as far as new 4g, the towers are barely taking advantage of 3g tech! why is it that we can't use video chat features available in other country's 3g? among other features... this is about selling units, F*(K apple!!!

While I don't disagree with your statement, it's my understanding that the "4g" stands for 4th Generation, not the network it will work on. I could very well be wrong about this though.

it'll be available in large cities... eventually spill out to the burbs, but who knows how long that will take! 3g started in 2001 and is finally available here and there!

i did learn a few things on wiki...

Objectives
4G is being developed to accommodate the QoS and rate requirements set by further development of existing 3G applications like wireless broadband access, Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), video chat, mobile TV, but also new services like HDTV content, minimal services like voice and data, and other services that utilize bandwidth. 4G may allow roaming with wireless local area networks, and may interact with digital video broadcasting systems.

The 4G working group[clarification needed] has defined the following as objectives of the 4G wireless communication standard:

Flexible channel bandwidth, between 5 and 20 MHz, optionally up to 40 MHz.[2]
A nominal data rate of 100 Mbit/s while the client physically moves at high speeds relative to the station, and 1 Gbit/s while client and station are in relatively fixed positions as defined by the ITU-R,[8]
A data rate of at least 100 Mbit/s between any two points in the world,[8]
Peak link spectral efficiency of 15 bit/s/Hz in the downlink, and 6.75 bit/s/Hz in the uplink (meaning that 1000 Mbit/s in the downlink should be possible over less than 67 MHz bandwidth)
System spectral efficiency of up to 3 bit/s/Hz/cell in the downlink and 2.25 bit/s/Hz/cell for indoor usage.[2]
Smooth handoff across heterogeneous networks,[9]
Seamless connectivity and global roaming across multiple networks,[10]
High quality of service for next generation multimedia support (real time audio, high speed data, HDTV video content, mobile TV, etc.)[10]
Interoperability with existing wireless standards,[11] and
An all IP, packet switched network.[10]

Some one care to explain this to me?

You get an I phone from At&t. They automatically tack on a $30 data plan because it's needed. You can then pay an additional $20 for unlimited text and messaging. So a total of $50.

or

You get anything but an iphone from At&t. You can now get the unlimited data and text messaging plan for $30.

You can't get it for the iphone. No one knows why...or so they say.

WTF!!!!! WHY THE HELL NOT!!!!!

Anyone care to explain?
