A lot of photographers will tell you that the best camera to have is the one that is on you...

In that spirit, I have really taken to exploring my iPhone as a camera. I am far from a great photographer by any means (although I hope I am getting better), but I sure do enjoy playing with this thing.

My latest pic (from yesterday):

Post your iPhone pics!

Yeah, that looks a lot better than I can get from my 3g. Of course most of my pics that I take are of cigars. I wish you could macro shoot with it.

Using the 3G (not the 3GS), but I was not using the native iPhone app to take the pic. I was using Pano. Obviously, the hardware is the hardware, but I wonder if there is some sharpening, levels adjustment going on in Pano at the software level...

Wow that's a really clear shot. Does it perform as well for closeups and normal (for lack of a better word) shots?

It does, but like most/all P&S cameras, it has a pretty slow lens requiring a ton of light.

I wouldn't use it as a replacement for a high-end P&S (like a Canon G series or the Panasonic LX3), but I think it is more less interchangeable in quality with the lower end of the market. Plus, it has the advantage of having a built-in software platform that allows you to do simple post-processing without having to go into Lightroom, Aperture, PS, etc.

Let me know if I am talking Greek...

I've taken well over 2000 pics with my iPhone camera--had this just over a year, so I use the camera "on hand" a whole helluva lot. I pretty much only use my DSLR now for shots at home of stuff.

I dunno how many are "good" photos, but I take plenty, that's for sure.

Which DSLR do you use? You have a Flickr stream?

The DIY Solution

The Retail Solution

Basically, the first link is about taking a DVD lens to take macro shots with a cell phone, the second is an iPhone case that has a built in lens.

Both were posts I remembered from the all powerful reddit!

nice pictures... im looking into getting an iphone but for some reason cool phones intimidate me
They do me as well...but the nice thing about the iPhone is that its actually the simplest phone I've ever used. Maybe its the lack of screen space on smaller cells, but I never found the UI to be particularly intuitive.

One of the stated iPhone goals was to make it so easy to use that, without instructions, a new user would be almost completely at ease with the device in a matter of minutes. Not too much of a stretch to say that is true...

I have an antique (by today's standards) Canon EOS Digital Rebel--the original model, from 2003. LINK: [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EOS_300D[/ame]

And yes I have a Flickr stream, but it's just where I put my photos for my blog...so if you look at my blog (link in my sig) you'll literally see all my pics.

The obvious "studio style" shots (things on white background) are all shot with the Canon, as are most of the pictures where you can see my room in the background (like t-shirts, record covers, etc).

All of the "on location" shots (things in stores mostly) are all taken with my iPhone, although I do tend to push things around in Photoshop.
