Got a few sticks in the mail and found a gash in one of them that goes through the binder. If it were wrapper damage I'd smoke away on it but I'm concerned that there will be draw issues with this gash.

Is this a valid reason to ask for a replacement?

In my opinion, yes it is. If it was me, depending on "what" the cigar was I would probably just put a patch on it and try to smoke it.

Now knowing what cigar it is and who it was made by I would most definately be asking....no, probably demanding, a replacement or my money refunded for the damaged stick!

I'm with Larry, it probably going to be less headache if you just ask for a replacement. If they're a quality source, shouldn't be a problem.

He's a great brother and operates a great outfit. I won't have any problems. I just didn't want to be petty about such a request, but it seems that it is a fitting request. Thanks for the advice.

Let them know, and ask for a replacement...A good retailer will WANT to know that this stick was damaged so they can check others in stock (assuming it may have been done in transit to them) and/or review their own shipping methods.

If it was my own fault I would smoke it anyway instead of tossing it. If I received it shipped like that I might complain (and still smoke it).

In my experience, a tear like that located closer to the foot can be accomodated, as eventually you smoke past it. But located where it is, I wouldn't be so sure.

Here's what I would do.... After I cut the cigar I would take the cap and flatten it out, grab some pectin and make a patch for it. Problem solved.

If you smoke it you're going to get a terrible burn. The binder and the filler at that spot will begin to burn in addition to the foot. Ask for a replacement, any reputable retailer should take care of it.
