is THIS what too much humidity can do?

I pulled out a Nub Camaroon today and when I took the cellophane off, the foot was cracked and split about a half inch. I lit it anyway and proceeded to smoke most of it, but it unravelled on me about halfway down the stick. This is one of the ones that I had in the over humidified travel humi. Is this the result of over humidification?

To me, it sounds like it took a beating more than over humidification. I guess that I could see it swelling beyond the limit if over humidified, but I don't know if I could verify that. Some peeps like their sticks at 60, some at 65 and some at 70. I even know a guy who keeps his at 75 (he likes them moist to slow down the burn and make them last longer is what he tells me).

In conclusion, I'll have to defer to those with more sticks under their belt, but I think it's a beating issue rather than a moisture issue.

It could be from abuse, but it could be from humidity too. If there is a change in humidity the filler can swell and if the wrapper doesn't keep up it'll crack, at least that's what I've been told. Key to that would be to minimize the humidity swings as much as you can. As for the abuse, do you use a travel humi or anything?

I would also add temperture swings to what Dan already mentioned!

Definitely sounds like too much humidity.

TYhe foot end absorbs the humidity and expands, cracking the wrapper. Too much heat will compound the problem.

It's very easy to over humidify a travel humidor!

When I first got into cigars about three years ago I switched from 65% beads to 70% (and back again a little later :))...had the same problem you described with swelling and cracking when the humidity increased.

Like others said about humidity and temp. Once I went from 70 to 63-65, I really have not had that problem.

Getting a travel humi just right and maintaining it can be a pain. Maybe someone on here that travels a lot has got some input on it.

I've never had a problem with this, but lowered my humidity after reading just to be on the safe side. Gotta protect the smokes!
LoL...smart move I just did the same thing, just in case. Sorry to hear that Tig, thats one I like to smoke. Time to put them in tho other humi...fast!

My advice is to get a lower humidity boveda or one of the sheets from heartfelt. I'd go 65% as the highest as the travel humidors built up humidity often times far past what you have put in there. I keep a small tube of 65% beads from heartfelt in mine and they're on the too humidified spectrum for me depending on the cigar. I'm thinking about getting something that's 60% from heartfelt for my travel case.

Like everyone has said it sounds like to much humidity and possible temp swings. A lot of times when I travel for a week or less I won't use any humidity devices. They usually stay fine up to a week if the seal is good.
