Hey guys,

I have been on the hunt for pappy 15 for over a year now and ran across a whiskey called Jefferson's presidential 18 while searching. What caught my eye on this whiskey is that it uses Stitzel and Weller bourbon (the same distillery as pappy). Ha anyone had this stuff in comparison to pappy? Being that I can not find the pappy 15, maybe this will be a good substitute?

i have heard that it is pulled FROM pappy barrels. Jefferson's has not been distilling for 18yr yet. the J and J reserve are based on the pappy mash bill, but the pres is pulled straight from a pappy barrel.

I wonder if this means it is actually pappy or just used in their
Barrels?

no, IS pappy distillate. from my understanding, anyway.

partial story was, prior distiller/owner/whatever of van winkle had a handshake agreement with the kids who opened jefferson's: when we open up the doors of the aging house, they get to go in and cherry pick a master barrel or two to buy.

Have you by chance tasted this? How does it compare to pappy?

I have a feeling this is more along the lines of don pepin= tatuaje as pappy=Jefferson 18. You can probably tell there is a "family" resemblance but they have different profiles. In this example, everyone wants the pappy and tatuaje monster series but no one really cares about the pepins or Jefferson's of the world.

I've heard from a couple different retailers in town that the Jefferson Presidential tastes the MOST like pappy. He didn't open up like javajunkie did. But, javajunkie is closer to the source than I am

I can't give you a comparison as it has been a while since I've had some Pappy but I can tell you the Jefferson Presidential is delicious! Just finished a bottle with a bunch of friends. I forgot how much I liked it. Went out and bought another bottle just the other day. Very tasty!

So, I had the chance to have both yesterday from my collection. They may have similar taste qualities but the pappy 23yr was a lot bolder whereas the jefferson 18yr was more subtle/refined. I definitely preferred the 23yr.
