On June 4, 2010, we lost the greatest coach of all time. John Wooden passed away, leaving behind his legacy. He started from humble beginnings, met the live his life, Nell, and began creating a style of play and morals/ethics that touched countless lives. His pure love of teaching children of all ages will never be matched.

Coach Wooden only had one loosing seasons his entire career, won 10 NCAA titles with 5 being in a row. He coached some of the greatest players ever to play the game. But that is not important to him. The children were.

I was fortunate to meet him in 1995. He told me that success isn't about winning or loosing. It is about trying your hardest and never quitting. If you ever get the chance read his book. They call me coach, please do.

He was 99 years old. His character was important to him, not his reputation. Afterall character is what truly describes us.

You will be missed Coach but you are already with Nell. Rest peacefully sir. Thanks for all you have done!

RIP Coach Wooden

You are one of the greatest coaches of all time. But as mentioned you were more than a coach. You were also a teacher of life. The world needs more John Woodens IMO.

A true gentleman and a legend of a coach - the man was a huge influence on Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (my favorite player of all time).
R.I.P. Coach Wooden.

I will look up his book. And from the bit pieces I've seen while watching basketball over the years it's hard to imagine a more influential and respected man in the world of sports let alone basketball. I truly hope more men of notice and certainly those who have not captured the public eye will take notice and begin to try to project and develop the character and heart this man has showed the world.

He will be missed. He was a great coach who turned out great men. Unlike the NBA preparatory programs of today, Coach turned out fundamentally sound basketball players who were morally sound!

RIP

Goodness gracious, sakes alive!

A finer man never took the court. People forget what a great player he was as well; 3 time All-American who led the Boilermakers to the National Championship.

When I was a kid I LOVED watching the Bruins play, alhough there was no cable TV then, so you only saw a couple of games on Satuday afternoons. Every year somebody else would challenge for the crown...Jacksonville with the great Artis Gilmore, Memphis State, but year after year, the Bruins would walk away as champions.

Rest in peace, Coach...you're with the love of your life now, your sweetheart Nell. Thanks for everything that you gave to us.
