Alright 1/2 inch in, let's get started. This stick was blended by James N. (Dscl) at the Joya De Nicaragua factory. The profile is dark, woodsy, medium strength, some good spice through the retro and a Shiraz wine finish. Not too shabby Mr. Jamesy boy. The smoke is smooth on the retro but at time peppers my senses. There is a sweetness that combined with the cream and body of the smoke reminds me of buttercream frosting. The cigar produces copious amounts of smoke billowing out my mouth into the air. The profile is rich and meaty but finishes clean with no acrid buildup like some smokes can present with the same profile. All of that smooth retro business is out the door.. Nix that, the smooth retro is on the subtle draws, when I really pull some smoke, the spice lights up my senses like a thorn in the ass.
The profile is pungent, it has a lightly fire cured feel to it. Full body, moving towards full strength in the second third. This thing puts out tons of smoke and I'm liking the size at the moment. Fits between the teeth well so I can type out my thoughts lol. Maybe barrel aged is what's coming across to me. Very rich and distinctive.. But the clean finish makes for a delicate balance between in your face and overpowering. The cigar is tunneling a bit, I've had to relight twice but not much of a problem but quick touch ups. The profile is staying fairly consistent through the middle of the stick. There is a musty perfume that crawls around in the background, it fits well with the rustic barrel aged/fire cured essence and the wine like sweetness and pepper on the finish. The strength is calming and warm towards the end of the second.
Definitely showing its Nic legs now in the final third. It's rich, woody, leather and pepper through the retro. The musty perfume still wraps in nicely and I can feel the fullness in my belly. The spice is interesting because it's like a long low but strong spice that rumbles through the sinuses but never overwhelms lol if that makes sense. I'm really enjoying this strong ass nub. It's because of the billowing smoke (long spicy retro) it just came to me haha. This blend culminated to the perfect finish from how it progresses. Very good job Jay, beginners luck or up and coming aficionado??
Your stick hit spice right on the head for how I like it, the strength was spot on and the profile was consistent and enjoyable.
