Curious as to weather JR or JR ultimate cigars were worth smoking? Been thinking about getting a couple fivers, any recommendations?

No....the JR Ultimate's are total crap and to purchase them will bring nothing but ill feelings to you if you smoke them. ( hope he believes this as it means more for us who love them
Honestly, I have been smoking them for years and they are as good as any premium out there...JMHO. If you don't smoke them it just means more for me.

This is good to know. I have a JRS cigar warehouse not even 5 minutes away. I know what to try next.
I like the Ultimates, tey are consistent and good. I was just at the Statesville store and they gave me an alternative edicione limitada edition. It was very full bodied but good. I bought the edmundo alternative the corona size. I smoked the edmundo robusto size. They are about $2.50 each when you buy a bundle. Try a fiver of those beside the ultimate.
I'll have to try that. I live in Statesville right down the road from it.
The Ultimate Habanitos maduros are great little smokes. Around $40 for a box of 24.
The JR Ultimates are a very good cigar IMHO. The Oscuro and maddies are great. I believe they're made by General.

Walking in JRs is like taking a step back in time!!
Last time I was there the had a table full of "Mystery Bags". It's exactly what you think... You pay 4.99 or whatever and you get a brown paper bag filled with something. You have no idea what happens to be inside..

I tried their Cuban alternative to a Cohiba and they not too bad. No, you shouldn't expect Cuban Twang but for $32.00 for a bundle they're a good short smoke that you don't mind if you don't finish it. The maddie Ultimates that I tried had draw problems.

You guys who live near the JR places make me very jealous....I know I'm shooting myself in the foot but those Ultimates are priced so good it defies logic. My favorites are the maduros and Oscuros as their flavor and profile is about as consistent as any top premium cigars. Xombie King,,,how lucky can one man be...5 minutes away would kill my cigar budget. Havana 1....those yellow cellos are a real treat and when I've ordered the Ultimates in the past I would get some obviously old stock and they are soooo f'n good. Anybody want to adopt me who lives close to a JR's warehouse?

I've only had one ultimate which I received in a sampler, and it was good.
The regular alternatives are decent. I used to smoke r edge maduro alot and while the jr alternative was not as good, it was not a bad stick at all.

I hope they have their humidity problem under control. I went into the Statesville store a few years back, to buy some closeout smokes that folks on the Cbid board where raving about. When I walked into the humidor, my glasses fogged over. Picked up 2 boxes and brought them back to Jersey. A few weeks later, went to smoke one, and found that both boxes where loaded with mold. I haven't been back since, but may have to give your recommendation a try the next time I'm down.
