texas, is there anyplace else?
My first time in Mexico and first cruise. Had a good time but I was unable to find any REAL cuban cigars. Every store had glass top Cohiba's. But I sure saw a lot of suckers buying some Cohiba Sublime LE 2001's. Back on the boat I had fun smoking a PSD4 and watching all the suckers smoking there white ashed cigars. :hysterica :hysterica :hysterica

From everything I've read, the LCDH in Cosumel closed sometime in the last year or so, and no other local vendor is known to be a reputable, authentic Habanos dealer.

I was thinking the same. Though, what do you say?
"Greetings complete stranger, I bet your wondering why that cigar tastes like your licking the community ashtray at the bus station" followed by "you say your wallet also got ass raped in process of securing that dog rocket from the local shop?"

I'm not really that much of an ass, but it would be funny.

lol, that would be pretty funny. In my experiences, though (and it may be because I'm only 20), people are not too kind when I try to explain to them about the fake habanos. My most recent experiences were when I was on my Europe cruise last year and some people got fake habanos. I didn't even accuse them of buying fake cubans, I just talked about how many cigars are fake and how to tell the differences, etc. It might just be the snobs on the cruise ship, but they all seemed to play the "I know how to get real cubans, but yours are fake" kinda shit. It was kinda annoying so I left the cigar spot and went to my balcony.
So in my opinion I think that everybody knows how many fakes there are, but they all think that they're getting the real deal. Many people take offense to the mere thought that their cigars aren't real, like I'm insulting their intelligence or something. So I normally don't even talk about habanos unless someone asks, and even then not so much.

Anyways, I'm glad Cozumel was fun! It's on my 'to visit' list.

I hate to see folks smoking fakes, but it's their vacation and not the time to educate them and make them feel bad...let them enjoy it, they will never know the difference.

I hope you had a good time. I love cruises!

I tried last March to help a guy out as he was about to pay $36 each for some Sublimes, he was buying 4! I told him that I would sell him some Esp. on the boat for $30 each if he just wanted to blow money and he would have authentics. He said these were real and I probably had the fakes. I yelled at my wife across the store that, "There is a guy up here buying some of those expensive ass fakes."

I talked another guy in to not buying some and actually gave him a couple of P2's. I hate to see people taken, but some people deserve it.

I worked 2 summers ago at the Cozumel LCDH when it was there....After that went adios the mgr of the LCDH opened up his own cigar bar (guantanamera's) but then when Wilma came through and destroyed the island/tourist infrastructure he was forced to give up because he did not have enough touristas to pay the bills. A real shame because all of the other cigar shops on the island are full o fakes. Sure if you know what you are doing you can find some real gems. In my apartment there I just keep a humidor with smokes I bring down from home.

If any of yall are planning on going to coz anytime lmk and we can herf if I am intown at the time ) Met a few great BOTL members this way!!!

Unless I know the person, I'm not gonna walk up to them and try to dissuade them from buying anything.
What would your reaction be if you were at a wine store and some guy said "These d'Yquem's are fake, come to my car and I'll sell you some cheaper authentic ones."
A bit of an extreme example, but you see where I'm going with this.
My rule is, unless asked or unless I know the person, I keep my mouth shut.
If they enjoy it, who am I to spoil their vacation?

everyone has great points...didn;t mean to start a whole things with my question.

I definately agree...I may be offended if I was on vacation, didn't know anything about sticks, and some guy tried to convince me I was getting ripped off.

I guess...if it's their vacation, and they don;t know any better, let them enjoy their "cuban".

It's their vacation, just let them enjoy their smokes. Most people aren't cigars smokers and couldn't tell the difference anyway.
