Anyone kayak fish? I rented a couple this weekend and fell in love. I would like to purchase a couple and wanted to get some feedback/experiences. I am probably going to be using these mostly in the lake near my home and maybe in some slow rivers, possibly the bay. Any thoughts?

I kayak fish at least 2-3 a week. They are great for getting places others can't get to--you can basically drop one wherever there is water--, they are relatively cheap and can be great exercise.

Oh, get a nice carbon fiber paddle, you eventually will, so purchase that at the same time.

What types of boat are you using? I am torn between a tandum for my wife and I or should I just get two singles?

one big issue will be your weight and height. Make sure that the kayak will hold your weight, and give you the legroom that you need.

remember that fast touring kayaks are narrow, so they do not have the stability of a wide kayak. Wide kayaks are awesome for fishing, but the wider the get, the slower they get.

I have a 10 ft that is 3 ft wide. Stable as hell, I can sit side saddle, and it can hold 450 lbs. almost impssible to flip. But it is like paddling a barge. It is slow. I am going to mount a trolling motor on it.

I also have a 14 ft, 31" wide. not as stable, but still pretty good. I can still sit side saddle, but can flip it. much faster than the 10 footer.

Good points.

I have a 12', I think, and it's in the 30" width range, I think. Not very fast. but stable.

Get one with rod holders as well!

ive always been intrested in it. my grandparents have a dock on the harbor and we have a kayak that they bought for the family but im really the only one that uses it. its just a ocean kayak and isnt really a great one to modify. I really want to get into this cause all the good fishing spots are always full where ever we go in the boat. if i had a good kayak i could get into the little creeks that you cant get to in a flats boat.
