To me the L40 was more full bodied and in line with the Liga Privada stuff. The BOTL was more medium bodied and not such a palate wrecker

I can tell you what they both share. Smoke and lots of it. I kind of avoid lanceros because I don't have the patience to smoke them properly. I like a no effort draw that produces a mouthful of smoke, for the most part I've had to draw way too long to get that from most lanceros causing heat and bitterness. Yeah, my fault and I know it but not with these. The over used "copious" applies to both of these.

I've only smoked one of my BOTL sticks but I found it to be a tad more in your face than the l40. Even a bit stronger IMO. Everyone is different!
I thought that's what the initial reviews had said, that it was stronger than the L40.

It's been well over a month since I smoked the L40, I need to get my hands on a couple more to revisit, but from what I remember, the BOTL is definitely sweeter.

Making this comparison may not help, but I'm gonna make it anyway... the L40 smoked a little more like a T52 - it was dryer, more leathery, more woody, and less sweet. Te BOTL 2012 was a little sweeter, and swung a little more towards the cedar of the No.9.

That's just my recollection.

My comments were regarding body not strength

When I smoked the L40, I was done for the night. When I had the BOTL I could have a few cigars afterwards.
