Labeling question (dates)

So, for those of you that like to label your cigars...
If you bought a box of cigars... Do you label it with the box date or the purchase dat?
If you buy a single stick, do you label it with the box date from the BM or the purchase dat?

I haven't had the luck of interacting with cc s so I don't worry about box codes. I make labels from computer paper and write the date on em if I pick em up. If there a bomb I put the date I receive d em and who they were from

Great question. I try to put a box date if I can, or if I know the band changed in 2013 and this is the old band, I'll put 2013 knowing it's at least that old. If all else fails (and it usually does) I put the date I bought it.

If you know the actual box date you should probably go with that though box dates are kind of rare with NCs. The only sticks I label NC wise are stuff like Anejos and I just put down the month and year I got them. Same system I use for labeling beers I age. Works well and its about as simple as it gets.

Same here...just month and year I purchase/acquire ......although I just started doing this yesterday

used to sharpie dates I bought on boxes but that got old after the second box.
I smoke cigars that's it. Probably should be more organized with the dating/keeping track but it interferes with my enjoyment of the cigar. I do admire those who put labels on all their cigars though. I think it's cool.

With all your posts lately, you are making me not feel as bad about my own tendencies. I do not date my cigars (although I have thought about doing so).
Also I do not get all the little flavors everyone talks about. So thank you for that.

I bought a whole bunch of labels. I hardly ever use them.

I try to label some of the stuff I bomb, but for my own stuff, I'm apparently too lazy.

I started to put information on cigars to help knowing what I smoke. I like to let them rest at least a week before smoking, particularly in winter; and Its good gesture to thank someone who gave you one cigar when you smoke it.

So, I try to identify the origine of the stick, and the fartest known date for it. If I know info like box code, that's what I write. Otherwise I put the date I received/bought it.

When I smoke a cigar, I mostly pick up whether I want another like it or no. Still tho, I admire those who can distinguish nuances.

I rarely purchase full NC boxes, and don't actually own any at the moment. Singles/fivers purchased at retail get marked with the date I got them in stock, as I want to know when they started sitting in my wineador's stable environment. If it's something I know is old, I'll write it's approximate birth year, and also the date I got it.

CCs are largely the same thing, but I just write the box code in tiny print on the factory band with a Micron pigment pen:

If it's cello, I use a mini sharpie. If it's uncelloed, I use a micron pigment pen to write in tiny print on the back of the cigar band. If it's a special smoke (expensive, rare, HTF, a gift, etc), I'll put a blank band on with the details. That's my "process."

I'm about four months behind, though... oy.

I have yet to go on a date with a label, but I imagine if I slept with the label, it would sneak out in the middle of the night and not call. I had a two pocket folder do this exact thing to me. It crushed my confidence.
