OK I Thread Jacked Plush yesterday, and did not get enough info, for obvious reasons.

I have a similar quest as Plush does. I am having a baby in late June or early July. I want to buy a 25 ct box of Lanceros, from the month and year the baby is born. Since he won't be born until June 2011, I won't be able to buy these for some time, but I need suggestions from those of you in the know. I want a 25 ct because that gives me 1 per year on his B'day, and a shared smoke thru his 21st. Of course we will not know how the current production are smoking yet, but past experiences are welcome.

Now I am asking for Lancero recommendations, but am open to other longer skinnier cigars as well, Panatelas, lonsdales are right up my alley.

The Obvious is the Cohiba Lancero, but they ain't cheap. So any other good ones out there. Also pleas list a price range I will be looking at. While I have smoked several handfuls of Cuban's I have nowhere near the experience as many of you. Thank in advance.

My vote would be for the Cohiba's. Next would be Trini Fundadores, and then Davidoff NC either #1 or Millenium Lanceros. Unfortunately none of these are cheap... Forgot to mention Cohiba Coronas Esp and Monte #2 Esp as well. Montes would be the cheapest out of all

I'm half way through a box of 07 Medaille Dor No. 1 No.1 - Wonderful smoke.
Any of the Medaille D'or 's are a wise investment. If found you just need to store at a low RH due to ring gauge to prevent draw issues.
I'm also a big fan of the Vegueros No1 & No2 - although some will disagree and call them shite.

OK, cheap is not a requirement, But a $400 box of smokes is not an option either.

And yeah I am thinking just CC's now, but would contemplate a box of Opus PLs if the opportunity came up.

Really? Never heard this before. A well made cigar should be able to sit within a normal RH range and not have draw issues.

I agree, I've just found that if I store them at 68-70rh they are tight. When I store them at 60-63 they tend to open up. I have not had the same issue with larger ring cigars, only the very thin CC's

You can get CoLa's for under 4 easy. Trinis, Montes, and Corona Esps will run you closer to 250-3

Should ... yea I agree. But it's often not the case. There is very little room for error in a lancero, so just a little swelling of the filler and the stick won't draw well ... and if we're talking about Habanos, construction quality is a major concern.

I often store even my NC lanceros at a lower (60%) rH for a few days before lighting them up, with good results.

Dave the problem with the LGCs Mdo's are that a few were DC in 2010 (#1+#3). Just get the number 1s from June 2010 and tell your son they're 2011s! If that doesn't work get the MDO's 2........

I really like Monte Especials with age on them. 7.5 x 38 I believe. Usually under 300.

Monte Especiales are excellent. Someone also mentioned Vegueros. I think they are pretty good smokes, but I'm not sure how well they age, especially over the time period you are talking about.

Also, you might want to look at the Partagas de Partagas No. 1. It's 6.75 x 43. Not a true lancero, but in that same size range. I know that these age very well, and are not terribly expensive either.

It is hard to beat the Cohiba Lanceros for consistency and flavor.
I have been stuck with to many "so-so" Monte's to gamble on.
My second choice would be the Trinidad, but it is not a close second....

Aha, someone got there before me. Dave, have you had the Monte Especial #1? These are by far one of my favorite smokes. 7.5" by 37 RG, Laguito #1 size. A wonderful and refined smoke. Still not cheap, but cheaper than the Cohibas and Trinis. I think they run $250-$275.

The Trinis were the right price and I know I like them, but only 24 of them. I know it seems ridiculous to worry about 1 cigar I will smoke 21 years from now. Once i actually am pulling the trigger, I may change my mind.
