So, I did not know a damn thing about CCs when I first came over to the Stan...well I still don't lol. However, what I do know is that I will have a layover in Frankfort, Germany and will be flying mostly by myself since I am going back early. Thus...I started looking at if they had CCs at the airport...they do. But know I am in way over my head with what is good and what isn't, or what is more rare or what is a good price...any help here would be great.

The Cigar page won't stay open. Also Dave (Mdwest) travels alot and seems to know those duty free shops pretty well when it comes to smokes

the duty free in frankfurt is a rip off! A three pack of H Upmann Mag 48s was close to $60. If you're going to go through Dubai then pick them up there. Dubai has the best prices in the world...literally. And the selction in Dubai is phenomenal. You cna even find some aged stuff.

But if Frankfurt is your only option and you don't mind paying higher prices, then go for it. The cigars are legit.

Yea, most prices I saw were high but some were OK, like a box of hu half Corona's (unless I'm off on what I think they go for).

Left side of page I just searched for marcas. Looking at the Psd4 as I always do your almost paying double. Get a few of the smaller size cigars as a sample and call it a day. Psd4, Cohiba sig II, Cohiba CE, monte 4s erdm choix supreme Maybe a monte 2. I'd get a fiver of cigars just to say u did. Ask if they refill the same box and if they DO NOT look for 2012 box codes.

@Bball...I don't think the military will let me reroute their flights, so I will be in Frankfurt. @Fire...what is Psd and erdm? Like I said, I know nothing of CCs. My thinking on these was I may be saving in shipping. But it sounds like they are trying to sell to a foreign market being an airport and thus jacked the prices??

CC prices in Germany are high in general (at least they are higher than prices that can be found online and in other countries)... and Frankfurt duty free isnt stellar as a general rule either (booze, electronics, etc.. are more expensive there than in other places too...)...

have you got any other layovers or you straight from BAF to Frankfurt to home?

You'd be surprised at how excellent duty free is in some smaller, less travelled airports... usually less to select from.... but for instance I can still find 2011 CC's at Entebee (Uganda) airport easily.. and can sometimes find stuff considerably older than that (picked up some 2009 stuff there last year)... The airport in Geneva had some really good finds the last time I passed through there as well... like Germany, CC's are a bit on the pricey side in Switzerland... but I picked up a 2010 box of RyJ #2's the last time I rolled through there (2012).. and there were still tons of boxes of them left on the shelves..

My favorite duty free in the world got burned to a crisp last month.. the smoke shop at the airport in Nairobi was a little small.. and had a limited selection.. but they kept their walk in a perfect 70/70 all the time.. stored their stuff really well... the clerks were knowledgeable and helpful... and probably 25% of their stock was at least 18 months to 24 months old.. like Uganda, you could still find some even older stuff there as well if you were willing to dig a little bit...

Abu Dhabi and Dubai both have excellent selections, at pretty good prices...but they turn their stock over very quickly... so its hard to find anything much older than about 8-12 months.. most of what they have on the shelves is 2013 at this point...

not that any of this helps with the Frankfurt RFI... just pointing out that all duty free isnt created equal... I used to hit anywhere from 60-80 different countries a year.. every year... for work.. these days I travel a lot less... but I still hit 6-10 different international airports each year (some of them multiple times) and have a chance to peruse their duty free shops....

a few things I picked up along the way.... Never buy electronics in London (Crazy, stupid, insanely expensive)... Never buy books anywhere in Africa (youll pay more for a book than you will an ipod).. Never buy cigars in Canada (expensive and US customs will shake you down when you return).. etc..etc..

Thanks for the input MD, very informative. I think if I am not doing straight from BAF to Frank, my only other stop would be Manas...which isn't an airport. So maybe I should just skip the search in Germany and take my business online then? That seems to be the general idea here. Thank everyone for the information and ultimately saving me money.
