As of yesterday, I have lost 47 pounds since July 1. I still have a long way to go, but I feel much better. I have less stress on the joints and my energy level is up. I know some of you will ask what diet I'm following, so I'm doing a liquid diet. It is made by Novartis and I am doing this under a doctor's supervision. Basically, I drink 5 of these juice box size drinks each day and lots of water. It totals 800 calories and has all of the nutrients I need to live. You even get three flavor choices; chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

With the amount of weight I have to lose, it was either this or some kind of bariatric surgery. I don't want to alter my body at all, and I'll just defeat it anyway by cheating, so why go the surgery route. I need to make a lifestyle change anyway, so why not do it without surgery? There is a weekly group therapy session. This is important because I will gain the weight back if I don't get my head on straight so to speak. One of the ideas to help me with my mental approach to weight loss is to talk to my friends about it more. So I thought you guys could help be my online support group!

I'm hoping to break 50 pound this week when I weigh in!

Kevin

Alot of self disipline is needed when someone chooses to lose weight, quit drinking and smoking, and the group therapy is there to help keep you disiplined and as Kevin says to keep your head on straight..

That's tremendous progress! You've had the dedication so far, and that's impressive. It also means you can keep it up. Good luck breaking that 50-pound mark, man.

I go out with my family to eat all the time, I just don't order any food. It totally freaks the waitresses out! One time we had some VERY bad service and the manager said we could have free dessert. So I figured, I'll order a dessert and take it home for the kids. When the waiter brought the dessert I said "Oh, I've decided I'm much to full, can you wrap it for me to go." She looked at me funny but didn't say anything!

Kev

I am inspired and encouraged to try your diet. I've seen you since we last herfed and you have excellent self control(noted when you herfed with me last month). About 10 years ago I did the diet route and lets just say my waistline went from a 42 to a 36. but I exercised often. Now with my kind of work, I am often too tired to exercise coming off 12 hours shift for three successive days and on an irregular schedule.

So how did you begin it? PM me.

Are you exercising with the diet or is it just the diet now and exercise once you lose a little more?

That is an amazing amount of weight loss in such a short period of time, keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress!

At first, I was just doing the diet. For the past few weeks I have begun water walking. I put a pool in a few months ago and I basically go around in circles! But I do that for about 20 minutes 3-4 times a week. The weather is going to start to change and we will close the pool up within a month, so I'm going to switch over to walking the dog. I know that exercise is a very important part to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and keeping the weight off. Hopefully I'll be able to make it a part of my daily routine.

Gene, pm coming your way.

Kevin,

Happy to hear your looking out for yourself and still working on this. Your going about this the right way with a Dr. and also understanding that it's more then just eating but a complete and total life style change. Exercise is an important part of that. Once your off the shakes you need to then watch closely what you eat and how much. I'm sure you basically know all this though. They also say it helps to eat smaller portions but more often. Keep up the good work and let us know how it goes. It really has to be hard though for you. Your such a damn good cook and to refrain from eating your food has got to be a killer. But you know that it will be much better for you the end result. It will definitely improve and lengthen your quality of life.

Keep up the Good work and keep us posted!!

I have been trying to cut down my calorie intake and lose some weight but its tough. I'll be at work and theres not a lot of choices for food that would last me through my 8 hour shift. I guess I should start bringing stuff, but then food is also a social thing sometimes, so it must be tough just not eating when everyone else is.

I applaud your determination. I guess having to totally replace all your food with the drinks would be a little easier to stick with after you get into it because you aren't eating any food to tempt you to eat more food!
