Ran into this program... cause I need to convert some videos from .mov so that I can load em up to youtube... but before I pay for it, I wanna know if any of you guys use it or have used it... or heck, if someone has a suggestion for a good free video editor/converter.. let me know.
Remember, I'm on a MAC

Thanks guys.

What video format do you need it exported as?

I thought handbrake (http://handbrake.fr) converts more than just DVDs to a multitude of formats now.

EDIT: Perhaps ffmpegx as well.. http://www.ffmpegx.com/

both are free.

EDIT2: handbrake will export to MP4 or MKV.

youtube keeps telling me that my .mov files are not compatible after I upload them... don't know why (maybe because it's HD?)

How I understand it is that MOV movie files have an index in them that indicates where specific video and audio frames exist in the file. If that index exists in the beginning of the file, then Youtube can recognize it. Otherwise it plays dumb.

This application may allow you to switch that index to the beginning as Google/youtube seems to want.

Can't promise it'll work and I'd recommend trying on a duplicate of your original file first, but it seems to have been updated as recently as yesterday, so it might have a good shot of working for you.

It looks like it requires adobe AIR. Trying it out here on my test iMac for you.

EDIT: I installed AIR, installed the .AIR file from that dude's website and processed a file without and issue. Without having a file that has the moov index at the end, I can't confirm it worked, but the MOV file I uploaded worked just fine. I'd say give it a whirl and see if it works for you.

First suggest is don't buy this program. If you look, there are tons of apps just like it that are only front end ffmpeg clients and FFMegX would be the same thing but not as nice looking. I believe they are all the same but rebranded -- part of an affiliate resell program.

Secondly, what source is the .mov video files from? That would help in solving the problem. Was it edited in any program like iMovie?

Lastly, if you want to buy a program I would recommend buying Apple Quicktime Pro instead. You could convert to mpeg4 directly and it's cheaper than the application you mentioned.

Eric, Thanks for the response... here is the info you are asking.

The video was downloaded from an HD Camera (hardrive, High def) Sony cam.

I do have quicktime pro... just hate the interface, so forgot it even edits video...

export for web, "desktop" after that.
Web is typically going to reduce the quality.

Do you have QuickTime X? It comes with Snow Leopard and you should be able to share directly to Youtube from the Share menu. I'd give this a shot and see if it helps the quality any.

Though, I assume if you're using QT Pro, you're using 7.6.6 which is available in 10.5 leopard....
