after reading a few of the posts that have come up lately, i'm kind of curious. since we have a lot of cigar smokers from a wide variety of backgrounds, what is the percentage of conservatives to liberals. the poll is going to be completely anonymous unless you want to post something.

What I want to know is how cigar smokers on a whole feel about the new taxes effective April 1st, 2009? SCHIP is going to raise taxes on most cigars that we smoke everyday, how about a different poll?

It depends...
Some issues I'm progressive, some issues I'm conservative, alot of issues I'm libertarian.

I vote other.

My money would be on conservatives taking the majority of a poll here, but I'm interested in seeing what the numbers are too.

Although I'm not happy about the $.40 SCHIP tax, I can deal with it for now. Unfortunately, our government has demonized products for years. IMO, the tobacco war is towards the end. At some point, all of these BS taxes will not produce significant revenue. If the government did not like tobaccoo, they would ban it. Oh hell no, that would kill income. Think about it. The government doesn't give a damn about your health, they just want your money. The next demons will be soda pop related to children and trans fat. Remember my words. In 10 years these products will be taxed in the name of "protecting the children". What's sad is people are too fucking stupid to believe this shit. Sure soda pop and trans fat are bad. Instead of taxing the shit out of people, maybe parent can lock of the video games and tell the kids to "get your fat ass outside and play something".

If this was a little strange, I have been drinking.

While every issue should be looked at and debated inividually most people are one or the other and those that are "moderate" are unable to make a decision and follow the masses. This imho is how most Presidents are elected. People had had enough of Clinton, we got Bush. People had had enough of Bush we now have Obama. This is done by the minority called "Moderates", as high as maybe 20% but more likely closer to 10%.

Nice try!! I guess I'm a moderate. I love to make decisions. I have never followed a herd (the masses). When you follow the herd, all you can see or smell is somebody's ass. I would rather walk around by myself and smell the fresh air.

Every issue should be decided on it's merit but I would bet you choose a more one way or the other most of the time. I respect everyones right to think as you choose. We may not agree on everything and that is good.

If you are ever in Mid-Missouri lmk, golf, smokes and dinner are on me.

Btw, My golf partner has a BagfullofPings, they don't call you C-Dub do they?

It's been interesting to follow this thread and look at the responses. Even though the poll uses the standards of conservative/liberal as opposed to party affiliation, what I really find fascinating is the way the general position of the parties, and their presumed liberal/conservative status, has changed in just a few decades.

40 years ago the conservatives were perceived as trying to enforce their will on the liberals. The liberals were the ones saying "you can't tell me how to live, you can't tell me what to do and what not to do", "I'll sit on the courthouse steps and smoke this joint and there ain't shit you can do about it". The irony never ceases to amaze me.

I am a conservative, and I've got some basic standards that I hold dear:

If you breed them, you feed them.

If you buy it, you pay for it.

Welfare and support programs should be used as a survival mechanism, not a life long entitlement.

If you are not in this country legally, and don't pay taxes, you are on your own.

All I really want to do is make my own choices, as much as that's possible.

Mark,

I voted "other", but I agree with you 100% regarding your "basic standards".

I'm conservative enough to make republicans nervous, Mark you couldn't have said it better.

I consider myself an AMERICAN I've traveled all over the world and this country as a member of two branches of our armed services in defense of our rights and liberty. Democrat, Republican, Conservative, or Liberal, I wouldn't trade it for anywhere else period.:ccool:

I agree with you on principle 100%, that is the way it should be, but as Winston Churchill said, "Democracy is the worst form of goverment ever devised, other than any other ever tried."

Yep, Mitch, you're probably right. I believe it's probably too late now anyway. We'll see in a decade, or maybe less.
