Do fire extinguishers go bad? I've had one sitting near the fireplace in the finished basement for 10 years along with one upstairs in our bedroom for the same amount of time. Do I need to consider replacing them?

Not sure. I would think they have a life span. I know they need to get recharged every so often.

Yep, since I'm sort of in the fire protection business I can say it should be replaced. Get one with a gauge on it, get rid of it if it falls into the red...If this one doesn't have any such instrument, throw it away...better safe than sorry.

When in doubt, throw it out. 10 years definate toss and replace, don't even think about that one. Even the home sizes, you should also turn them upside down and back a few time a year to prevent the ABC dry chemical from clumping up.

And remember, change your clock, change your smoke detector batteries. Those also have date created and date to toss. If you don't see one for the battery style detector, consider replacing those as well. All else fails, call Headbanger.
