At some point, the government (ours) has to be prepared to admit that its policy has failed. Nearly 50 years of the embargo, and not a single thing has changed in Cuba's government. It's hard to understand why some would argue we should keep it up. My father always called that "shoveling crap against the tide".

Well that sure will make things alot better as far as getting cc's not that its hard now. Just alot of trouble with all the laws. You know how that is, where there is a will ,theres a way. Well with the SCHIP in now , at least us smokers can get something out of it.

It makes no sense to keep the embargo active any longer...we could both benefit from each others goods. My only worry is how many non-cuban brands (good and bad) do you think will survive should it happen? Do you guys think it will have a major effect? I know myself for one would still smoke the nc's but probably not as often...

I think it will have a huge effect on the market. Can you imagine initial buying rush in the states all CC inventory will be hard to get, and greener than imaginable? Most folks will have to smoke the nc's until the ccs can get any age on them whatsoever. It will surly be very interesting to watch it happen.

I love a ton of ncs, they just fit a certain flavor profile that we have all come to enjoy.

Wonder how the pricing is going to look... Supply/Demand wise, I read an article saying the Cubans have everything in place to ramp up production once the embargo is lifted.

I think certain brands will end up being much better and may blow up internationally. For example, Don Pepin Garcia. From an interview I read, it sounds like if this happens you will find cigars with cuban wrappers, niceraguan binders and cuban filler. May be interesting. I do think many will go out of business though.

Our government doesn't make mistakes! Lifting the ban would constitute admitting they were wrong and subsequently that means they made a mistake. If and when we begin trading with Cuba they will try by every means possible to call it anything but "lifting the embargo".

I think the biggest hurdle will be the fight over who has the rights to the names. My undestanding is that it will be all out war of the manufacturers. Hope Not.

The cigar thing is good for us, but Cuba also has other things to offer I'm sure.

How this effects things politically and socioeconomically I know not and don't care to spend the time writing my thoughts. In terms of cigars, I may be in the minority, but of course I believe there will be an increase in demand for CC's, but where is the supply to fulfill it? Cubans can't afford the extra rollers, tobacco, time, energy, etc to devote themselves to building up millions of extra sticks in case the embargo lifts. I think it will be just as hard to get them as it may be now and you will probably end up paying more. Then you are right back to your Nicaraguans. I look forward to a few years down the road when people like Pete have some time to play with blends, to me that will be when we start to notice a big difference. These things take time to fully take shape. Just my opinion though.

We all want cigars, but the biggest winner in trade with them would be sugar I think. They're so close it would be as close to free to move around for trade.
