Does anyone do this on a regular basis, light the cigar completely then cut it?

I was reading, forgot where, that when lighting a cut cigar it soaks up the burnt flavor from lighting it, but if you light it then cut it there is no vacuum effect, can someone attest to this?

I tried it today, meh it was a bit better or it could be all in my mind.

I've tried this, but I don't know that I have mastered it. Also, I am not sure if I can discern the difference.

I light first. Before that, my habit was always to toast and when she was glowing, take a couple puffs with the lighter still on there. Maybe that was the problem...but the first few puffs were always harsh. Too hot, probably. I switched to toasting the end until it glows, then I cut and enjoy. Seems much better for the first few minutes. Patience is a virtue.

I part of the light then cut crowd now too. I find less harshness, especially in the first third. In fact, I think I mistook much of that harshness as 'pepper', since everyone talks about pepper and spice in so many of the reviews I read. Whatever it is I've never been crazy about a lot of it so I'm happy with less now.

To those that didn't get much of a difference between this method and the way they usually light, I would be interested to find out your current lighting methods. It would make sense that if your lighting method was a "toast the foot, get it going, then take a draw" that you wouldn't see much, if any difference, between the two methods. If you're from the camp of taking a draw while you light, then I can see the difference.

I use to do this all the time and noticed a big difference. For some reason I just stopped. I blame my ADD. But this is a good reminder to try it again.
