Everyone has their own opinion on this, no one is right because manufacturers have different opinions themselves even. In my opinion, LE's are easier to sell and tend to keep a company's name fresh and spoken about. Viaje and Tatuaje sell the most LE's today and people scramble to buy them out. Whereas good regular production cigars from companies can sit on a shelf for a long time, and even get discontinued because they've been around awhile and people stop talking about them and buying them. For instance, My Father is discontinuing the JJ Maduro and other JJ cigars as well as a few others. These are good cigars, but they are not "exciting" and sit on the shelf.
A small company like Viaje has a great business model in today's cigar world by making small batches, creating buzz among cigar geeks and they sell out fast. He would not be able to sell as many cigars by continually making the same regular production stock and they would end up sitting on the shelves, like his regular lines. I'm not a fan of Viaje, but I think he's doing just fine for a small company.
I don't know so much about Andre/Viaje, but I know Pete has fun creating new cigars and has fun working with his retailers when they have new ideas for cigars. It's a win-win-win for him, his retailers and Tat fans that like the new cigars coming out. Pete used to post a lot here on BOTL but hasn't for some time now. He also used to post on other forums but doesn't so anymore. I personally think he just gets bored quickly with things and moves on.
I personally like to try new things and mix up my cigar smoking. I have very few cigars that I need to keep buying and constantly smoke because of this. LE's are perfect for me because it stays "exciting" for me. Sure it sucks when you like something and it's gone, but something will take its place sooner than later. For regular production, I'll stick to CC's that I know I like and will age well.
