I'm not sure what you really call it. However, do you suck or place the stick in your mouth for time before lighting it? I always do. At first, it was for me to try to gather notes before sparking it. Well, that didn't help me determine much (for the record, I really can't taste subtle notes).

Now, I give myself about 10-15 minutes to "hold it" before I light it? Do you let yours marinate?:nodlaugh:

I can’t or wouldn’t say I marinate them before smoking, however, I do take a few dry puffs for a pre light taste test. While doing this I moisten the head a little to help the cutting as to prevent tearing the wrapper. I try to take my time and look the cigar over real well and admire the construction and quality before I light up. I can’t help but admire the cigars just due to the fact that they are handmade. Mood and atmosphere are important to enjoying a fine smoke for me. I just can’t enjoy a cigar while mowing the lawn or other chores I’d rather not be doing. I'd rather smoke while sitting on my porcelain throne then doing work.

I really don't have problems with my wrapper if I keep my humidity and temp right in my humi, plus the cut, etc. However, I know what you mean by keeping the cap moist.

It is all preference after all:smile:

I just say grace and light that mother up.
Amen! No need to make love to the thing! Just make sure the draw is ok and torch it!
IMO cigars taste better when they're lit (which is why we do it!). No need for me to waste time before I get to the good stuff!
Although everybody smokes cigars differently.

I know what you mean, sometimes I unwrap the stick if its in cellophane, and let it sit there for a few minutes as I mentally go over some things about the cigar. Where its from, ect.

Guys used to do that in the good old days because the wrappers were dry. If properly humidified, no need. I can remember giving a very important client an awesome cigar not normally found in your average B&M after a steak dinner. He slobbered all over it, licking it and deepthroating the thing two or three times. Then he smoked about two inches and stubbed it out. He is no longer a client and I sadly buried the thing in the back yard pleading mercy from the cigar gods.

No need to do this. Just fired them up and enjoy.
