Disclaimer: I have refrained from reading any of the previous reviews on these cigars. I wanted to go into this completely blind and not have any preconceived notions regarding this blend. I hope you enjoy.
Cigar: MBombay Habano Blend Robusto (4.5 x 48). This was sent to me for review by @mel-mbombay, but you guys already know that.
Leaf stats:
Capa: Ecuadorian Habano
Banda: Ecuadorian Corillo
Tripa: Nicaraguan and Peruvian
Smoke Time: Just about an hour and a half.
Wrapper: The wrapper is very beautiful Colorado color with a nice oily sheen. It is very smooth and smells of quality tobacco.
Appearance: The Habano Blend is nicely rolled with visible but tight seams and a closed foot. It is very solid with only a few soft spots
Equipment: Palio cutter, Xikar Allume single flame, shitty folding chair from Academy, water.
Pre-draw: A good dose of earthy tobacco.
Band: I have liked the bands on the MBombay cigars ever since the first time I've seen one. The band on this particular cigar is smaller than the ones I have seen on their other cigars. It's a very ornate Paisley with MBombay across the center. It reminds me of some type of antique tapestry. It had a little too much glue on it but it had no problem coming off.
1st third: I'm picking up on some pleasant floral notes in the first half inch and the burn line is damn near razor sharp. The ash is a dark grey and seems to be staying quite tight. The floral flavors are very predominant and it's on the mild side, maybe more medium, but very good. I really like the tobacco used in this blend.
2nd third: Getting into the second third brings some woody elements, floral Tea-like notes and cedar. The tea flavor is taking a backseat to the cedar and its developing an herbal note, almost fresh oregano. The finish is long and coats the palate with creamy smoke. No pepper what so ever on the retro which is nice. This would be a great morning cigar with some tea with honey. The burn is getting a little crooked but seems to be correcting itself. I have not needed to do a single touch up.
Final third: The flavors have remained consistent up to this point. Some reviewers may say that makes a cigar boring but I like it. The flavors are taking a turn from woody and floral to deep earthy tobacco flavor. There hasn't been a hint of harshness at all and I'm smoking it faster than I usually do. This one is going to the nub.
Final thoughts: the MBombay Habano Blend proved to be a very enjoyable cigar. I especially love this size cigar, not too long but not too short either. I think this is a good cigar for a novice and seasoned smoker alike. Very enjoyable flavors and great construction. I think you guys have a winner with this cigar. I would like to thank Ron Arellano and @mel-mbombay for providing me with the samples. I hope everyone has enjoyed this review and please try MBombay when you have a chance.
