Initial thoughts -
There are some cracks in the wrapper at the foot of this cigar. While it is extremely aesthetically pleasing, there may be construction issues here. I removed the large band which revealed more fine cracks and slight wrapper issues. Will this effect the smoke? Only time will tell.
Used an Xi3 to cut. Was clearly below the cap, but wrapper damage was evident.
Prelight - slight black pepper in mouth and on the draw.
1/3
Mild to medium hay, I hear the wrapper cracking.......
Black pepper is evident in the background. Really smooth smoke but there is a slight sour note on the finish. Flavors are subtle, mild to medium in body and strength. Retrohale is another nose clearer on the spice. White pepper would be my description of the pepper on the retrohale. Sourness is gone toward the end of the first third. Woodsy oak is up hay fell down, to the end of the first third and the start of the second the body is at a medium and the Flavors are enjoyable. The construction which I thought was going to be an issue is absolutely fine. Straight burn and great draw.
2/3
Medium body and low strength. I think I can say for the first time that that picture does not do this cigar justice. It's tasting good, oak and cedar on the forefront with a light pepper in the back.
Woodsy note switch cedar is up oak is down and white pepper rising. Strength at a mild to medium. Body is at a mild to medium as well. Just tapped the ash it was looking a bit unstable.
3/3
The band is helping to keep the wrapper on at this point, becoming a bit difficult to smoke. Flavors are white pepper up, retrohale is back to heavy pepper. 2/3 was the best part of this stick. If your a mild cigar smoker this would be a great switch up. But yeah. Might put it down soon, getting a bit hot and squishy toward the middle of the last third. Little bit of hay on the finish and the black and white pepper remains.
Conclusion: 78
Mild to medium cigar smokers would enjoy this as a change up. They may call it very good. However the wow factor was mainly in the aesthetics for me and it ended at the construction. These little issues I had with the cigar didn't really effect how it smoked. I would suggest a punch if possible on this cigar. And yeah. Strength was on par with body in my opinion. I don't have much else to say about this stick. But I would certainly smoke this again as a morning stick, I have to say that in my own tastes it beat the habano blend by Mbomby. But the score doesn't reflect that because of the construction and the hay that was present in the start and came back faintly in the end.
Smoke Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
